Wenty are able to force an error early in the tackle count. Big break there but Wenty have plenty of work ahead of them as they look to rumble the ball out from their goal line.

Metres are hard to come by early in the set and it doesn't get much better when a sloppy movement ends up with Faraimo having to stop to take the ball.

A poor kick completes what was a spectacularly ordinary set as Newcastle gain possession near halfway.

Yet another error from the Knights saves Wenty some blushes and they then pick up a massive penalty (contextutally) for a strip.

Pewhairangi offers good utility value; better than Hunt. If we're able to retain him outside the top 25 we'd be mad not to, IMO.

Maybe he's weighing up his options?

I agree merkin.

Howard and then Kassis take Wenty into Newcastle's half before Kelly feeds Pauli the ball down the right-edge.

The ball comes back to Kassis to bring up the last but Kelly's stab-chip kick to too deep and is taken by ex-Eel Wiliame in goals on the full.

Too easy for the Knights now as Redman (?) darts from dummy half and draws in the 1/2 defenders to unleash Likiliki into the back field.

The hulking prop quickly sums up the situation and passes to Dobson who has pushed up on his right. Dobson cruises to the try line as Newcastle extend their lead.

The conversion is successful.

Newcastle lead Wenty 18-6

48min gone.

Things are not boding well for Wenty with repeated poor efforts in defence gifting Newcastle points and territory.

A better set in defence means that Newcastle have to kick from their 40m line this time around and Hunt heads back to retrieve the rolling ball.

Toutai and Kassis ruck the ball out before Kelly fires a kick down field with a tackle spare. The ball is lost backwards and a good chase from Jones traps Newcastle in their red zone.

Newcastle kick early in their set but Wenty have the men back to secure the ball on the full.

Wenty now with their first real attacking chance of the half. The Magpies attack the left-edge across consecutive tackles that nearly sees Toutai create something with almost no space to work in.

Toutai is forced to kick and Newcastle come away with the ball.

Good run from Jake Butler-Fleming there. Got in at dummy half and used his footwork to pinch some helpful metres.

There is another break down in play though for Wenty as Hunt and Mackenzie misread each other's intentions which results in Mackenzie knocking the ball on.

Butler-Fleming at the thick of it again, not in a good way though. He loses control of a swirling bomb on his try line and miraculously neither grounds it in goals nor knocks it on but somehow gets in the field of play.

That was a very lucky call.

Wenty go no where quickly in this set and are forced to hoof the ball down field as pressure mounts.

Can't see this team making any dent in this competition. They have looked ordinary whenever I have seen them live this year.

And sure enough the points come for Newcastle as the Magpies are caught massively short down their right-edge.

Hunt has no chance at stopping the stampeding Knights and Wiliame crosses in the corner for Newcastle's fourth try of the day.

The conversion is successful.

Newcastle now have a commanding 18 point lead with the scoreboard reading 24-6 in their favour.

i reckon we'd be better off letting pauli pauli play U20s .... he's getting no benefit from playing for wenty - he's proved himself against men already

Another kick off for Wenty.

Plenty of metres for the Knights, though they come later in the set and down their right-edge this time around. Newcastle power over halfway and are in position for another attacking kick as they bomb Hunt.

He is under immense pressure and does well to take the ball cleanly.

Wenty are forced to work the ball out from their goal line yet again and actually do alright, completing their set with a kick that finds touch deep in Newcastle's half.

It's true that Hunt couldn't have saved the try, but he didn't even try.

Both tries this half, he has stood and watched the opposition run at him. I know he's facing a two-on-one situation, but at least play at the ball or try to smash the ball runner.

Too late for any real benefit to either him or the team though as he is not eligible for the NYC finals.

Newcastle finally cough up on halfway, giving Wenty some much needed territory and possession.

Wenty switch play from the left to the right but come up with the error between Hunt and Mackenzie again as Mackenzie insists on throwing an extremely low percentage flick ball to Butler-Fleming that results in a turnover.

No patience at all from Wenty.

Simple set from the Knights as they look to control the tempo of the game. Dobson rolls the ball into touch 15m out from Wenty's goal line.

The Magpies race in to pack the scrum and the ref signals time off with 14min left on the clock.

Alvaro and Maliota roll the ball up the middle before O'Malley takes a charge. Went attack down the ir left on the last and Pewhairangi gets away a good kick that traps Newcastle on their 10m line.

Are we getting beaten in the middle? Kelly doesn't sound like he's doing much.

Is he likely to be receiving top 25 offers from anywhere?

Turnover for Wenty now as they get the ball in the Newcastle red zone. Mackenzie was the one who got the pill.

They attack down their left but Hunt chooses to pass instead of run...might have been the wrong option there!

Not much doing after they initial shift before Pewhairangi nearly steps his way to the try line.

Kelly bombs cross field on the fourth and bizarrely, Wiliame bats it dead when he had all the time for a clean take.

Line drop out.

Pewhairangi goes agonisingly close again as he runs the ball and gets a penalty for a hand on the ball. Unsurprisingly, it all comes to naught as Kelly runs behind Pauli - who was steaming in on an unders line. The referee doesn't hesitate to call the obstruction and Wenty are left to rue another squandered opportunity.
