And that's the thing as you've just said they were the best juniors we've had in years, that's how bad our junior system was for such a long time. The best in that lot is probably Matterson who is a decent enough first grader and the worst is Doolan who, even after a change of clubs didn't progress past the 20's. It's taken Kelepi 3 club changes for him to realise what he has. You pointing out those names only strengthens the argument that our junior system didn't have a leader.

No coach is to blame for that either. They probably all had a type of player they wanted brought through the system. Then when they got their plan put into place they either left or got sacked. I know it's hard to not have someone to blame but that's just what's happened unfortunately.

You missed the point, speaking in hindsight yea we all agree
I reckon Greg Louganis will still play NRL. Yeah his defence is pretty shit but not really that much worse than Semi, Vatuvei, Uate, Nofoaluma, Rapana and any number of less memorable names, but his offensive potential would put him within reach of top 32 wingers in game. f**k if he just marks his man, he'd be a better defender than any of our other wingers.

That said salary cap rules could also work against him ever playing NRL

Wasn't he the American diver that smacked his head against the spring board in the Olympics ?

I did in 2015 and a bit in 2016 when he played in the NYC and in previous years before that in lower grades. He had an unreal kicking game and running game that I thought he was for certain going to be an NRL player. There's still no reason, talent wise, why he can't make first grade. He needs to work on his defensive positioning and mindset even in attack he wanted to go for the miracle play to score a try when he needed to play percentages.

I think he has been in Brisbane 21. How has he peformed in qld cup?

He didn't seem like much of a thinker on the field.

I suspect he might be top 30 already. Considering how he dominated under 20s the year we got him from the Titans there was probably some demand for him. For us to win the race to his signature we might've had to offer a top 30 spot in the year he turned 21 (this year).

So we chose GL over Keppie? Just so many top 30 spots. Interested to see how SK goes next year.
Obviously BA now dosent rate GL.

We still have top 30 spots available for next year. We just didn't think Keppie was worth one of them. He's not exactly killing it in Flegg. He's never even played reserve grade.

Nah we probably chose Oregan Kaufusi, and Stefano Utoikamanu over Keppie.
Keppie is just another worker and it's not like we don't have enough of those. Ray Stone is only a year older than Keppie and he outplayed him in NYC last year. He also made the NSW Junior Origin team when he was 20. Keppie didn't.

Kaufusi made the team as well and he's a year younger than Keppie. He'll still be eligible for under 20s next year and already playing reserve grade every week.

Utoikamanu is two years younger than Keppie and already a better attacking forward. I reckon we've probably made the right call on who to keep.

Keppie could turn out to be a decent first grade player but there's no way he's worth a top 30 spot for next year, which is what manly have reportedly signed him to.

Agreed. He could definitely become a solid first grader but it won't be next year, and probably not until he's at least 23. He could also never play more than half a dozen NRL games in his career.

With Manly's cap problems they were desperate for cheap top 30 players (the cheapest only needs to be on about $70k). If they can get that much value out of him good on them. But we will struggle to fit all of our talented young forwards (Kaufusi, Faingaa, Dresler, Tupou, maybe Utoikamanu) into the dev squad, even if one or two of them make it into the top 30 (I assume Stone will graduate).

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...9/news-story/aaea8b74e383df346e2e8596f239dde9 this article states that Stone is in the top 30 for this year but also says his contract ends this year so we'll have to assume he's going to be re-signed. I don't know how much stock you can put into this article though as they don't have Niukore listed at all.

You would think that if Stone is now in top 30 it was spot number 30 that he got to replace Beau or Kenny by June 30. I am betting it came with an upgrade for this year and possibly an extension into next year. Hopefully BA gives him a run this year if there is no longer a need to seek exemption.

Do you know when hes scheduled to return MJC?
Do you think he will make it as an NRL player? From what I saw he was a weapon in the 20s but not so much in the 2s.

In last weeks Injury Report he was listed as Round 21.
I have no real view on him as to be honest, I haven't seen enough. Others may be better suited to give an opinion.
