Maybe he is really really trying to impress BA
I reckon BA has been working on him to improve his ruck skills. He’s played RM Cup a bunch of times this year when matches don’t clash. Mostly at hooker and once as half.

For NSW Cup he subs or starts at lock and sometimes fills in as hooker.

Possible. With Rein and Hands he doesn't get time. He maybe be seen as not as good a hooker as those two but a better all rounder/Utility.
High chance Hdgo blows his knee again next season and one of these 3 play big minutes

Is that a fact ? Studies say 23% chance of reinjury.

Was his reinjury because of his inferior physiology or was he given poor rehab ? Maybe it was just bad luck ?

He has done it 3 times in 5 or 6yrs. If it doesn't blow inn2023 I'd dare say it blows in 2024.
His knees are shot.

How many times had Gutho done his knee? At least twice, once at Manly, once with us.

He has seemed to get past it now. Probably lost some pace (was he ever particularly fast?) ... he was young when he did it though.

Yes he was fast. I remember him. There is also the fact Guth did his knee early in career. Hodgson is quite old for an NRL player. And he has done his knee 3 times now in is it 5yrs or 6yrs? I'm unsure if its just unlucky or he has knee issues. Time will tell.
On a positive he did it early in the season. Imagine he did it recently. Atleast his whole bodies had a chance to rest.

He's done his knee so many times he's practically a 25 year old.

Hodgson is definitely a risk of not playing many games, and that risk would be reflected in his price.

He was signed prior to his latest knee reco.
I reckon 2 in 5 yrs might be seen as a bit unlucky. Whatever we paid after his latest knee blow-out I reckon his value would of dropped 150k.
My guess is he is costing about 350k-400k average over 2 yrs. Would be lucky of gotten 200-250k if was looking now.

Penrith desperate for a hooker? I thought they had endless juniors

They lost Korisau. Kenny is average and more a lock.
I'm just pointing out there isn't heaps of good hookers. If Hodgson was wanted then plenty of other clubs would of chased. The fact we signed him so quickly thou to me suggest our offer was good. He had rejected the Tigers offer a few weeks prior. Obviously it wasn't enough. With us he practically signed immediately.
I still perosnaly beleive we over reacted in losing Mahoney and paid overs for him. I could be wrong but it's the way I see it.

Of course the apologists will deny and argue he was cheap etc. I just look at the situation.
At the time he hadn't done his knee a 3rd time.
Tigers where chasing but didn't land him. Eels lost Mahoney and within 2 weeks or so had signed Hodgson. If people think he is only costing around 250k they have rocks in head.
I know media reports where he was on 800k and looking a half his pay packet. I'd say that's on the money. Being his 2nd year is an option in his favour perhaps his 2nd year is closer to 250-300k. Hope I am wrong. He is quality if can turn back the clock for a year or two. But don't be auprised if Rein is our starter next season.
