Accountants ffs. Every club spends the entire cap on players. If the budget is tight it's because the cap is limiting your spend, not because 'accountants' are trying to save money. If the cap is biting it means we are spending a lot of money on players already at the club. The accountants obviously didn't prevent that from happening.

Yes I know this despite living on the other side of the country.

and yet we still have about 3 spots left with 500k to spend….

f**k this club…

MON and Rogers are the worse thing to happen to this club in years….if anything good can come out of this it’s the fact we can fire those 2 merkins into the sun but I dare say we don’t have the balls to go that far.

Well they don't even get a mention it will be all BA copping the shit but as we stand

Flegg are 0-5
CUP are 0-5
NRL are 2-3

For the more than once time, salaries are signed off and agreed by the Chairman, CEO and HoF who all have accounting backgrounds. If the cap is out of kilter, it’s back to them, our accountants are obviously worse than those at other clubs.

ONeil and Rogers have not signed anyone of note for at least 3 years and that’s their job, you may live in WA but they are doing an awful job and should be shown the door.

someone like Shane Richardson at the Tigers would not be as passive as those 2. Compared to our peers they are in the bottom 2 , and whatever their KPIs were, they have failed so move them on.

Who says our cap is 'out of kilter'? We have a solid team, the accountants have done their job. Players out of form or injured isn't their fault. I would be blaming the coaching staff before them.

Well when you have players in your top 30 playing in RMC it's out of kilter...
No it isn't. Those blokes would be on minimum salary. They are no more important than the players on development contracts playing reserve grade. It's not like we don't have any spots left in the top 30 or cap space for them. These are players are all backups. They are interchangeable. They certainly don't decide your season.
Also Solid? Who wants a solid team?
With the same salary cap as every (most) other club, how good a team should you be able to put together? If you're paying a player $1M that is one twelfth of the salary cap. It should f**king hurt when he's unavailable. You certainly shouldn't be able to afford to bring on a like-for-like replacement. Anyone that good should be on $1M at another club.

They would be on minimum salary? Have you asked them or are you assuming?

What backup is playing in RMC if they are a top 30 contracted player?

How are they important as a development contracted player?

Wonder how hurt Penrith are with Cleary out making 1.2 mill A season 🤔 they must have to move Laui to halfback right? And play a 18 year old at 5/8? As they can't afford to have first grader playing in CUP.

Then I assume they can't afford decent centres or wingers now JFH is on 800k a season?
Definately can't have a decent hooker if they are paying almost a million for their lock?

Let's forget they just resigned a centre to solely be a backup for another season so he is just playing CUP. Who wants to sign at a club to be a backup? They can't be very good if they are a backup....

The more you’re paying your backups the less you have to pay your first graders. That’s how the cap works. It is zero sum.

One the club is trying to get rid of.

Well they are being paid a full time salary. Just like the blokes at the bottom of the top 30. They can all be picked in first grade. The only difference these days is that they’re paid from a different pool of money.

They didn’t look very good against Manly.

I’m sure we can all agree Penrith have figured out how to beat the salary cap. It happened sometime after Maloney spilled the beans on that Keno TPA the NRL didn’t like.

Don’t even mention Penrith in the same breath as other clubs. Their use of the salary cap is so good they could afford to bring back the failed coach they previously sacked, who had spent thirteen years failing all over the NRL.

We are obviously not on their level, which is why we’ve won f**k all since Sarantinos signed Mark O’Neill and Brad Arthur in 1987.

I know Delboy harps on about not signing anyone of note. But it is true. I mean which established first grader have we signed since Jennings and Ferguson?

Our 30 man squad is probably the least balanced in the comp. 17, maybe 18 first graders and that is it.

So by those metrics MON and the non exec members of our retention and recruitment committee should be sacked.

We have the money, but obviously we cannot sell Parramatta as a great destination for players. As said earlier, how can we only have 27 spots filled at this time of year? It was a similar situation last year, so no one can make excuses about extenuating circumstances.

The whole football operation side of the club (from Flegg up) needs to be reviewed by an independent expert an we need to get some smart, proven operators in.

Bernie Gurr and BA signed the players that made us a force. Gurr leaves and Saratinos and ONeil get appointed , and we become very cap compliant and somehow become less attractive to prospective signings. It’s not something that can be ignored, and that’s what I don’t understand, the pile on to the coach which is a given in some respects, but the construction of the roster and the obvious failings have been swept to one side. Crazy.

It doesn't help that we seem to allow player managers to ream us into paying overs to retain certain senior players every time the contract comes up - instead of perhaps gaining a loyalty discount of sorts in those situations, if we've made those guys really believe in and want to play keep playing here and forgoing some top up salary so they can get a good squad around them with depth to challenge for the title.
