Newcastle ruck it out to just short of halfway and get away a kick from the left-edge shortside.

Faraimo takes the ball from the bounce and Wenty look to work the ball into Newcastle's half.

Kelly kicks on the fourth and manages to drive the ball in goals where it pulls up! Ben Jones manage to tackle the Newcastle back a couple of meters outside his goal line.

Wenty continue to win the arm wrestle as Newcastle get away a kick that Hunt fields on his own 40m line.

Some messy stuff there as Hunt looks to cut back to the left but has to stop for fear of running behind his own players.

Hunt is involved in another misplay a few tackles later as he looks to sweep down the right and roll the ball in behind but instead kicks it straight into a defender that then dives on the ball.

Much better field position for the Kngihts as a result of the Hunt kick. They manage to work the ball into Wenty's half and force Hunt to field the ball 10m out from his goal line.

Ma'afu and Toutai do well to cart the ball out before Ualesi centres the ball strongly. Wenty pick up a fresh set on the back of a Newcastle hand deflecting pass in an attempted tackle. Bit of fortune there.

And Wenty score from a set piece move! Hunt loops out to the right and catches Mackenzie runs the inside line and streaks through some flimsy defence to score!

The conversion is successful.

Wenty lock the game up at 6-all

The Knights attack Wenty's left edge from the scrum win before shifting the ball to the opposite edge where they practically walk the ball in. Pauli shot up but couldn't trap the ball and then the Newcastle fullback ran between Kelly and Mackenzie for an easy four pointer.

The conversion is successful.

Newcastle are back in front 12-6

Pauli seems to have learned little from last week's game against the Newcastle NYC team as he is pinged for a shoulder charge.

Replays suggest it was borderline but he needs to be better if he is going for the big shot.

Newcastle attack down Wenty's left from the tap restart. No penalty for Wenty despite Mata'utia clearly running behind an ally - I really wish there was clarity in that rule!

Wenty manage to repel the Knight this time around as Faraimo dives on the loose ball after a messy bomb contest.

Is Buretta Fariamo American, or did he just play for the USA team due to some heritage, like Paulo?

Good set of defence from Wenty. They come up with a turnover as Newcastle try to shoot down the right-edge shortside.

Kassis runs the ball towards the left edge and is tackled. Jones' let loose a terrible ball from dummy half that Wenty clean up just before the defensive line arrives.

The Magpies sweep down the left and pull defenders in, great attacking chance from the next play but Pewhairangi loses the ball from dummy half! Oh dear.

Ualesi playing in the middle?

Yes, Poups.

Good run from Toutai as he surges from dummy half for a 15m gain.

Kelly brings the ball down the right-edge and is taken in a tackle.

Wenty suffer from another breakdown of play as they run it on the last and look for a Hail Mary offload that is intercepted by Mantaletto (sp). He flies down field but is tackled by Hunt.

Newcastle have a multitude of options available and choose to spin the ball to their left-edge. Wenty scramble and bring the ball to the ground before the Knights attack back to the other edge.

A committed effort from Faraimo forces an error from Mantaletto (sp) and almost certainly saves a try.

Wenty get the ball back and ruck it out to bring an end to the first half.

Half Time

Newcastle lead Wenty 12-6

How has he been going? And do you know if he or Alvaro will be at the club next year?

I believe Alvaro is contracted for another year. Not sure on the status of Ualesi but he has had some good carries and has been busy in defence up the middle. He also had a poor error from a kickoff run that lead to Newcastle's second try.

Do youse know what Pewhairangi and Ma'afu are doing next year?

No clue to be honest Poups. Wenty will be getting a pretty significant injection of talent from the NYC plus incoming signings Nelson/McPherson next year so I'm not sure if they will be retained.

The second half is under way with Wenty kicking off and Wenty are under the pump immediately as Likiliki (sp) makes a bullocking run straight up the middle.

Newcastle power over halfway on the back of momentum from their first run and roll in a grubber kick that Hunt has to play at and unfortunately loses control of. That was a tough take but it now means that Wenty are under immense pressure.

Pewhairangi offers good utility value; better than Hunt. If we're able to retain him outside the top 25 we'd be mad not to, IMO.

Maybe he's weighing up his options? Then again, we do have plenty of cover at all of the positions Pewhairangi plays (assuming ZDC comes into the fulltime squad).
