Mark Spud Carroll kept taking Timms up and was left bewildered as to how he hasn’t seen game time in the NRL. Now that’s one hombre that knows a forward when he sees one.

Also did anyone see the coaching staff of roosters in the stands. Not an official but the first grade coaching staff.

Now when was the first time anyone has seen McGregor or his coaching stafff at a CC game.

I don’t know what he does for the 14 hours a day he so called works but take a note from the roosters coach book rather than appearing that you think you can coach. As much as I dislike Robinson as he has been handed a premiership winning team to him he does all the right things a first grade coach should be doing for the club and not his own benefit
Yep, Robinson and Fitzgibbon watched the reserves and then got out of there well before first grade started. Not sure they were watching any of our guys in particular, probably just doing their job as the Roosters coaches.

You have to ask the question as to why Robinson and his assistants were at the CC game yesterday. Freezing cold day, his 1st grade playing in a very big game the next day, captains run etc. No real "big" names running around in the Bears line up, except maybe Collins or Smith. So why the full entourage? My guess is he is also interested in a few of our blokes as well, and one Lachlan Timm, in my opinion.

Robinson has 2 reasons for being there - to watch his feeder club & he also knows he can improve anyone in our system by at least 200%
McWrecker has no reason to be there- as he can not improve anyone, anytime, not to do with football any way, possibly painting a wall, but i even doubt that

Timm better ? Who would know. At this rate we will never find out. His stats imply he would be but we seem destined not to see him.Kerr better than the other two? With the ball yes, without it I think Kaufusi and Latimore are better defenders. Kerr can make the odd bone shattering hit, but he moves and recovers slowly. He may learn but even in the lower grades he is targeted, especially when he gets isolated on the fringes. He is worth persevering with though.
I am not going to question your assessment of Kerr but in the context of our ladder position, what have we got to lose?
In terms of defence - what defence? we conceded 5 tries against the Titans and have a season's average points scored against us of nearly 25.
Did either Kaufusi or Latimore really make a material difference to that stat?
Timm looks a standout to me but time in FG is the only thing that really matters in terms of finding out he can make up part of a potent prop rotation.
We have missed JDB but in terms of our defence around the ruck we have really missed LAM as well.

Would agree with your points just not overly convinced that Kerr is up to first grade standard re his defence and that he will not prove a saviour, his attack is another matter. But you are right that he has not got great opposition from our current team in regards to the quality of their defence.

CC Dragons consolidate top four spot

The St George Illawarra Dragons have held onto their top four spot with a nail-biting 22-18 victory over the North Sydney Bears at a breezy Netstrata Jubilee Oval.

The home side were dealt a blow before kick-off, when winger Lachlan Maranta was ruled out in warm-up due to a hamstring injury. Coach Mat Head was forced to reshape his line-up, with Jai Field given the duties of starting the game on the flank.

St George Illawarra’s woes continued into the game with the Bears crossing for their first try after just seven minutes had elapsed. A silky backline shift was finished off by Keiran Moss who slid nicely across field, before a gap opened for the fullback to dart through and score, notching the 4-0 lead.

A nice tip on by the Dragons midway through the first half found Matt Dufty unmarked on the wing, with the livewire youngster racing down the field before stepping the would-be Norths defenders to improve the position, diving underneath the posts. Tristan Sailor slotted the goal to give the Red V the 6-4 advantage. The Bears responded immediately down the right-hand side of the Dragons defence, with big Billy Smith crashing over from close range to snatch the lead back at 8-6.

Darren Nicholls kicked the Dragons out of trouble, booting a beautiful 40-20, with the breeze heavily behind his back. The hosts took full advantage in the ensuing set, with Adam Clune providing a neat short ball for Jacob Host who ran through a considerable hole in the Bears' defence to plant it down. Sailor made no mistake with his attempt at goal to make it 12-8.

A frantic final few minutes of the first half ended with the Dragons crossing for their third try of the afternoon through Nicholls who pulled out the old show and go close to the line, spinning out of a last ditch effort by a bears defender before scoring a great individual try. Sailor's goal was successful to give the Dragons a ten point advantage at the break at 18-8.

North Sydney mounted pressure early in the second half, turning their first opportunity into points with Drew Hutchison dishing a beautiful short ball meters out from the line for Jerry Key to finish it off by barging over. Smith converted his first for the day to reduce the Dragons lead to 18-14. Hutchison continued his high involvement setting up the next Bears four pointer with a floating cut out pass that found James Tuitaih who linked with winger Nick O’Meley who finished it off out wide. The difficult goal attempt was missed, with the scores locked at 18-all.

The Dragons had plenty of opportunities to respond midway through the second stanza, but failed at the last hurdle on every attempt. They finally found the stripe ahead of the 70th minute through Charly Runciman, to break the deadlock.

An exciting finish it was with the Bears throwing plenty at the Dragons who held their nerve as four-point victors.

Been to watch many reserve grade games and only saw Mary at one game and that was in 2016.
Funny I've seen plenty of other NRL coaches at these games but McGregor chooses his assistants to rock up. Great way to keep your finger on the pulse of things.

This cannot possibly be true. He must be there or what else would prevent him from being there ? I know he works 14 hour days but geez i can't believe some of it wouldn't be for CC duties.

Mat head his offisider is their coach and his eyes for him. maybe too much trust is given to Head for what is happening and advice of who's who and whats what...but he is in the coal face.

Matt Head at the moment. Jason Demitriou before. What's wrong with McGregor looking for himself? Other successful coaches can do it and they seem to make the correct calls. This bloke doesn't.

If he is there he never shows his face.
He may be at the ground but you wouldn't know

He gets to a couple a year
Last one was V Panthers at win, only because he was there for fan day earlier.
He doesn't rate the comp so he is not interested.

Doesn't rate the comp = doesn't rate the players playing in it = why Timm hasn't got a start in 1st grade.

On the flip side, perenial journeymen such as Maranta, Lats and Allgood are preferred, due to their "experience".

Then this is a bigger reason to punt the guy. Too arrogant to even appreciate that the players from his club are doing well, yet the players he has in NRL aren’t up to scratch.
Like I’ve said previously, other coaches with far better results than him go, yet he doesn’t.
Says it all really!!!!!

This exactly is the whole problem.
He is too scared to debut someone...or he is does not know how to educate and man manage a debuton
I heared through the DragonVine it was not him or his call that pushed SAAB to be given a go when able after June 30
Look at this weekend not sure how many minutes Ford was on but brought on when the score got to 36-16 after everyone thought it was all over.
But it is like someone has tapped Mary on the shoulder all of a sudden and forced his hand with giving some young reggies grades a go when they have a good performance etc.
He stands their proud as a peacock if he knows when a player is ready..he clearly does not.
Bit in saying Fords 4 try haul was not agianst the best opposition either..
but Timm has been doing it consistently I hear so someone else is pulling the strings there..it seems
We are all waiting for the real tap on the shoulder though!!!!
