Yeah it is those blindside ones that are the real problem. Front-on not so much, but then it gets hard to rule on.

Regardless, I'd rather see front-on tackles where the tackler lifts the bloke up and puts him on his arse than the shoulder charge. I think those types of tackles should be encouraged, and shoulder charges are the easy way out to mask a poor tackling technique.

Jack Wighton from the Raiders is a beautiful tackler. He destroys people much bigger than him by using good technique, timing and commitment.

Whilst that is a great tackle to witness and also to lift the team, it can also go wrong. Yes shoulder chargers can go wrong, but when the lifting tackle goes wrong, it can go VERY wrong. The shoulder charge tackle is less likely to put a player in a wheelchair.

You are talking about spear tackles, which are completely different from the type of tackle I am talking about.

A tackle with proper technique should never end with a player going over the horizontal unless there was an intention to do so. The tackler has control of how he lifts.

Whilst I agree with you that there are players that can do the tackle you are refering to perfectly (Andrew Johns). I have seen players picked up in a converntional style, then the player tackled attempts to twist over to get to the ground which makes it dangerous. There is also the risk of a second player getting involved and then this becomes a real problem.
