Forget where the money has gone but rather looking at roster management.

Lafai would and should be a lock at left centre for the next few years.

That leaves Mann (my preference) and Milne to fight out for let's say right centre but we already have Aitken signed there too. So unless we have other plans for Mann like fullback it makes no sense to keep Milne too, especially considering the amount of quality backs we have coming through.

I concede one thought I haven't had until now is if Nighty retires and Mann goes to that wing which leaves Milne and Aitken fighting out for right centre but I doubt that.

Depending what Milne is asking I guess will depend if we keep him or not as I don't see him being first choice but at the moment the backup
Macdonald, Mann and Lafai are left side outside backs. Milne, Aitken and Herbert are right side outside backs. So the contest for right side outside backs will be between Milne, Aitken and Herbert for two positions - centre and wing if Nightingale retires.

On the left we would have Macdonald, Lafai and Mann to fight it out for two positons. Garrick to join this fight in a years time. So depth in the outside backs is assured if Mann, Milne and Lafia are retained.

Apparently the recruitment is doing a bad job by some on the forum. But reading the last sentence in the Paper:-
"Lafai joins captain Gareth Widdop, Tyson Frizell, Euan Aitken, Jack de Belin, Paul Vaughan and Jai Field as those to have re-signed with the Dragons this season".

I think they have done quite well in keeping all the guys that want to stay in the red V because they want to not for money. I think they should also add Sims to that list as he joined late last year under Millward which has also been an awesome by and from memory Thompson extended as well last year.

More great news!
Good to see it wasn't dragged out and bitched about in the papers.
Nice clean, behind the scenes management type thingy, without player & papers whinging.

Yes Old Kogarah Boy 1, very professional and a great outcome by all parties.

Lafai could have thrown the towel in due to a disappointing 2016 however, has done the opposite. He recovered from his injuries and did what was required in the offseason.

He had offers from other clubs and decided to stay. Would LMAO if one of those clubs was the Dogs, he's a Dragon now

Agree Slippery
Also extended Dufty and lowrie and a bunch of juniors.
I think he's done a good job so far.
Let hope he can get mann done next then milne.
We then have a team that can give it a shake for the next few years.
Including this year

Lafai re-signs with the Red V

St George Illawarra centre Tim Lafai has re-signed with the Dragons for a further three seasons.

Lafai will now remain at the Dragons at least until the end of the 2020 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

The Samoan international joined the club last year and has played 29 NRL games for the Dragons to date.

Scoring five tries so far in 2017, the Samoan international has reaped the rewards from a strong off-season.

The 25-year-old was pleased to secure his family's future at the Dragons beyond the current year.

"I'm excited to spend the next three years at the Dragons," Lafai said.

"When you're off-contract it's always one of those things that sit in the back of your mind, so now I can just fully concentrate on doing my job for the Dragons.

"It's really great to be able to sort out my future and focus wholly on footy now."

St George Illawarra Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward said Lafai's signature was quite the coup for the Dragons considering his popularity in the market.

Millward also said Lafai has been earmarked as a future member of the first grade leadership group as one of the veteran members of the Dragons' outside backs.

"There were several clubs trying to sign Tim, but what was most evident in our negotiations was that he wanted to stay here," Millward said.

"Tim is a true professional so we're really excited to see him remain, not only because of his playing ability but because he's a good family and clubman."

Lafai joins the likes of skipper Gareth Widdop, Tyson Frizell, Euan Aitken, Jack de Belin, Paul Vaughan, Jai Field, Jacob Host, Blake Lawrie, Luciano Leilua and Reece Robson to have extended their stay at the Dragons this season.
