St George are certainly proving themselves to be as bigger low lifes as manly I'll say that much.

Pathetic.

That's a bit heavy, but not all that untrue. Lance & Timmo aint gone yet - thats the only saving grace

Funny that the Mark O'neill situation didn't receive nearly as much publicity as this though. O'Neill is a clubman through and through, but was not wanted by the Tigers next season.

Reason?? the Club was up-front and honest with him - ie PROFESSIONAL.

The Dragons obviously want to release him but what I find disgraceful is that every quote I have read from Doust has him trying to deflect the blame onto Lance Thompson. He acts like they weren't going to release him until until he overreacted and walked out on the awards night. Give me a break

Not in my books. Firstly, they (the club) would have known this salary cap problem was coming a while ago, if they didn't they must rank as the dumbest club in the comp.

So supposing they know this, and are looking to "talk" to Timmo & Lance about there futures, do it straight up so that such BS cannot go around, leaking from "wanker" managers. They should have prevented that possibility from the outset - by explaining clearly to each player promptly about the salary cap situation the club faces, the direction the club wants to take, and outlining the possibilities each has. That way the player has the facts in front of them and has choices they can make.

And as a bare minimum - they owe that to Both Timmo & Lance in return for their long term service to the club pre & post merge. Leaving it like they did, and allowing rumour to sweep through to player level was unprofessional, and lacks respect for those who have served them so well.

Additionally, squabbling like they have through the media only makes it worse. Its farcical.

I doubt they knew that Ben Creagh was going to get an Australian call up and the big pay rises for the jersy flegg guns who have made a large impression. Corectly, yes they would have had an idea on what the situation would of been at the end of the season

Why are they signing Matt Bickerstaff and Damon Alley Tovio if they are struggling to get under the cap?

I'm really unhappy with Dragons over this. Fact is, this guy is one of the most loyal guys in the nrl, a guy who takes a paycut to stay at the club, for anyone to be at a single club as long as he as been at dragons and then to be told that he's being squeezed out.... Absolute bullsh*t.

to fill in the gaps of our Backrow, i doubt there worth much

But there's no gaps there with Thommo, Timmo, Creagh, Henderson, Payne. Supposedly Bickerstaff is getting $60K, dunno about the other jimbob. Money thats better spent elsewhere.

How does a player get classed in the second tier signings?

someone may well correct me here!

but the cap that makes up 3.25 mill is taken up by the top 25 players at the club, in basic terms the second tier players will be paid lower than the lowest paid NRL player at the club.

The second tier cap used to be 500K, however I believe that's no longer the case and there is no longer a sallery cap for PL and Flegg players...again I may be corrected here.

"I don't want to get into a slanging match with him. All I am trying to do is get the emotion out of this.

"These issues in business have got to be managed technically, not emotionally."

That, is not a very smart thing to say.....

When Thompson took a hefty pay cut so that the club could keep other players, I'm sure he was delighted at the emotional attachment that Thompson has with the club.

That's about right:

Why hasn't the Salary Cap gone up? The Salary Cap has in fact risen substantially since its introduction in 1998. In that year the Salary Cap was $3.25million for the Top 25 players and $500,000 for all players outside of the Top 25 regardless whether they played in the NRL.

As well as the $3.25million the previously mentioned allowances for 'long serving players' and 'new sponsorship money' have taken the available spending per Club to $3.55million. In addition, payments for players outside the Top 25 have been relaxed. Previously, Clubs could only offer $500,000 in contracts to their Second Tier players regardless of whether they were fielded in the NRL.

Currently, Clubs can spend as much as they can afford on development and recruitment of future players. They are however restricted to a $300,000 Cap for Second Tier players who take part in the NRL side that year. The end result of this has been to allow Clubs greater scope to invest in young players without being restricted by the Salary Cap.
