One thing I have noticed about Lance Thompson is he drops the ball a lot. As Roy and HG would say, “He’s got a touch of Johnny Fifita about him”

Jones would have been easier given he and Watson didn't get along. Plus they brought Fien last year so the writting was on the wall for Jones.

You can't have it both ways Willow. Either they have cap problems, something you dismissed as misinformation in the link above, or it's for other reasons.

Please elaborate... and whatever you do, don't hold back on your sources
Ah nqboy, my little shadow. LOL.

It is incorrect to say they 'can't get under the cap' - because obviously they can. You typed it, don't blame me.

look on the brightside all you thommo fans...if he goes to another club (baring the eels) he might have a chance of winning a GF before he retires...

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! that is the funniest thing i have read for a long time,Norths jumped into bed with Manly for cash not for the good of the game, and once they were in bed they tried to screw Manly over big time

good to see the dead Bears society lives on

This Thompson saga is pretty weird. He walks out on their presentation night leaving Peter Doust like a shag on a rock holding his 200th game award because he's angry cause he believes the club wants to give him the chop but the club comes out and says he's at fault and pre-empted their intentions. They only wanted to 'talk' about his future. Well what did they want to talk about? Has Thompson jumped the gun or is he justified to believe the club wants him out? I mean he reportedly took a pay cut last year so what else could they want from him?

BTW I'd have him at the Sharks.

Weird is one word, disgracefully handled is another - by both parties.

If dragons managememt merely wanted to "talk" to Lance (and Timmo) they should have approached him straight up, informally at first perhaps, and then sit down later for further talks. Lance then knows from the horses mouth where he stands, and there can be no room for rumour or innuendo.

Secondly, if Lance had heard this news through another party as he stated, he should have approached Doust/Brown straight up to sort out the truth from the fiction.

Lance is a true Clubman, some would say the heart and soul of the Dragons & I wouldn't disagree. I'd be flat out furious too If I'd heard what he had, but I'd still seek out the truth of the matter before I did anything else. What he did was innapropriate.

But additionally the Club should bear the responsibility of the major proportion of blame here. If they want to get rid of him it would be an absolute travesty, and not just because of his commitment to the club, but he plays his backside off every frigging week. If they want to just talk over the options for his future, then fine - BUT TALK TO THE GUY, not speculate in a board room and leave it for a few days. It then develops into a game of chinese whispers, and loose lips sink ships. They needed to prevent such a possibility, but didnt.

Press releases by the Dragons Management sound professional and in order, but don't be fooled - they have acted like amateurs.

Yep! There is a $100,000 exception on the salary cap for 10 year players. Thompson is a 10 year player. The salary cap is being used as an excuse. There is more to this story. The Dragons want him out for other reasons and are using the salary cap as the easy way out.

That discount is only allowed for one player per club.. In the Dragons case that player may be Barrett..

I take exception to that!!! Fifita was the undisputed heavyweight champion of cold potatoes.

Difference being, Thommo was losing them in Tackles, Fifita used to drop them whatever the situation - even one over the tryline against the Sharks on a sunny day at Endeavour Field I recall.

But back on topic, there must be something Club Managers dont like about Solid, Experienced, Loyal, Red-Headed Back-Rowers - Anyone recall a bloke by the name of Paul Vautin??

He's a solid if not spectacular player, and no-one can doubt the service he has given his club on the field. But this is not the first time he's displayed what many would call unintelligent behaviour, is it...?

The way I look at, if your boss says he or she wants to have a talk with you next week, yeah you might worry a bit. Especially if there's been rumours of cut-backs etc in your workplace. But bottom line is you still front for the meeting, and keep working hard (even harder?) in the meantime.

When Thompson was told his boss wanted a word, it seems he threw a tantrum, a public paddy. If that's the way he deals with being worried, then maybe that's OK. But it's definitely not intelligent, and has meant that he's likely to have made his situation worse than even he was worried that it might be.

If as a boss I had to let someone go, all other things being equal, I'd let go of the less intelligent one. Bye bye Lance. One year contract somewhere else (Souths?) and then probably Gold Coast to end his career. Sad for Lance, sad for Dragons fans, but the way this has played out I can't see it being resolved any other way.

Fact is the knives have been out for Lance all season. No wonder he got the sh*ts. Peter Doust should be on 'dancing with the stars' he's that good at the quick step.
