This Thompson saga is pretty weird. He walks out on their presentation night leaving Peter Doust like a shag on a rock holding his 200th game award because he's angry cause he believes the club wants to give him the chop but the club comes out and says he's at fault and pre-empted their intentions. They only wanted to 'talk' about his future. Well what did they want to talk about? Has Thompson jumped the gun or is he justified to believe the club wants him out? I mean he reportedly took a pay cut last year so what else could they want from him?
BTW I'd have him at the Sharks.
Weird is one word, disgracefully handled is another - by both parties.
If dragons managememt merely wanted to "talk" to Lance (and Timmo) they should have approached him straight up, informally at first perhaps, and then sit down later for further talks. Lance then knows from the horses mouth where he stands, and there can be no room for rumour or innuendo.
Secondly, if Lance had heard this news through another party as he stated, he should have approached Doust/Brown straight up to sort out the truth from the fiction.
Lance is a true Clubman, some would say the heart and soul of the Dragons & I wouldn't disagree. I'd be flat out furious too If I'd heard what he had, but I'd still seek out the truth of the matter before I did anything else. What he did was innapropriate.
But additionally the Club should bear the responsibility of the major proportion of blame here. If they want to get rid of him it would be an absolute travesty, and not just because of his commitment to the club, but he plays his backside off every frigging week. If they want to just talk over the options for his future, then fine - BUT TALK TO THE GUY, not speculate in a board room and leave it for a few days. It then develops into a game of chinese whispers, and loose lips sink ships. They needed to prevent such a possibility, but didnt.
Press releases by the Dragons Management sound professional and in order, but don't be fooled - they have acted like amateurs.
