Last night proved Pearce is not up to Origin

Last night the blues went into the game without star halves. Our halves were in form players that are not flash but play with passion and don't let the occasion get to them

It proved that Pearce is just not cut out for Origin football. He tries to hard to the detriment of the rest of the team. Last night our true star players like Hayne were able to shine because we didn't have a half gimping us throughout the game

Pearce already proved that himself.
What it did prove is that the 'he's our best option' line isn't true, even if it once was.

They played gritty and did exactly what they were required to do. For their first game, they played rather well.

Kicking game wasvery, very average.... How many times did both halves kick directly to Slater ans Slater didn't have to move. Hayne had to take a few kicks in the 2nd half to get any distance and direction.

Its origin, they arent going to find grass everytime and we were under the pump most of that second half, hard to get a great kick off under that sort of pressure. The QLDers were hitting us on the full too. Still managed to come up with a couple of good results from kicks.

You only have to watch Pearce for one touch to see he isnt upto it. Whenever he gets the ball he looks like he is panicking and rushed i.e with a 3 man overlap(we know how that ends). They say great players have plenty of time on the ball, Pearce is the exact opposite of that.

last night proved if hayne was fit the last 2 games last yr we win.
Take him out of last night there was no attack at all. Anyone could have played halfback. Reyolds went alright but if we lose hayne shes all over.

What last night proved is that Reynolds is a myth of epic proportions. Both him and Hodkinson were so bad with the boot that Farah and Hayne had to take over kicking duties.

They are not stars, no one has ever claimed they were. But NSW needed a half pairing that would play to the teams strengths and not harm the side. They both were able to do that last night by playing a calm game and allowing the real playmakers and star players to strut their stuff.

They did what Pearce was never able to do, help the team win Game 1 at Suncorp

well obviously you didn't watch origin series in 2013. most NSW tries off kicks came from farah, not pearce.

look how damaging hayne can be when the halves work with him and give him space (unlike pearce last 4 years), NSW have looked so toothless in defence, that changed big time last.

No other halves would have done better last night. They weren't amazing but they held their own, threatened the line occasionally and got their kicks away. Although the kicking wasn't the best ever, they were under a lot of pressure.. And unlike Pearce, there were no dropped balls and no charged down kicks

game three 2013 proved that the closest pearce should come to origin is buying himself side line seats

i've never seen a player so out of place as pearce that night

Personally I loved that the halves utilised Hayne's boot. Who better? Stand deep, huge kick. Pressure relieved.

Hokko and Grubby were great.

No point sinking the boot in. We all knew this was the case but at least the myth has been busted, he isn't the best half in NSW.

I just hope they don't go back to previous mistakes and pick Maloney if Reynolds is out.

The only thing last night proved is that our backline and forwards need to fire for us to win. Hodko and Reynolds were ok but no better or worse than any other halves combo in the last 8 series. There is nothing they did in that game to turn it in our favour. Hayne was the x-factor like we all knew he would be.

Pearce has been a negative factor in the past few years. It's not just a matter of him being ineffective, his performances have benefitted Queensland more than NSW

Without Hayne NSW lose for sure and QLD were up against it when Cronk broke his arm in any case. The NSW halves were very ordinary as they have limited ability and cannot in reality be selected for game 2 or beyond if NSW are to win the series.

It will be 1 all with the decider at Suncorp so best to make the changes required now for game 2 for NSW instead of doing this for game 3.

Last night showed that Hodgkinson and Reynolds are not upto SOO standard- maybe fair club NRL players but their lack of ability was very much exposed at this level.

The following changes are required for game 2 and beyond

Pearce and Maloney replaces Hodgkinson and Reynolds
Fifita replaces - Merrin
Bird replaces - Scott

i understand your need to defend one of your own but to say they were no worse than pearce is a massive injustice

pearce was the biggest reason we lost the series last year
