supposedly fans can’t afford both.

may be true, went to CC final this year and hotels in London were insane!
I suppose adding in a french trip as well.

Still if fans want it then it should stay, just in more interesting locations than leeds!

Think it was cause they moved the date of the final to a later date

magic is a great idea

giving up on one of the few successes the English game has had recently would be typical English rugby league

Not really an IMG thing but future directions for SL

Significant changes to Super League's quota rules appear set to be introduced in 2026, which will see a number of current quota players become exempt from the rulings.

Rugby League Live revealed earlier this year that proposals were being discussed to relax the rulings, which would see players who were able to attain British citizenship no longer be considered as a quota player. Every Super League club is allowed to have seven 'non-federation trained' players within their squad.
Initially, it had been suggested the rules could be implemented ahead of the 2025 season, which could have had significant implications heading into the new season. However, Rugby League Live understands the most recent proposal has been slightly amended.
The new proposal would see any quota player who has spent six consecutive years as a Super League player become exempt. They would not require British citizenship to acquire the exemption, though the period of time they would need to have played in the competition is longer than initially proposed.
Players must have specifically spent six consecutive years in Super League, with any periods in another competition in between resetting the time period. Championship players would not be exempt if they had spent six years playing in that competition.

Img grading criteria has been updated to include
change in number of clubs
clubs that own their stadiums being able to show the value on their financial base
wider range of media for reach
confirmation sky+ audiences not included

and the biggie….…
clubs not allowed to appeal the grading, only the process

When do they release the grading for who'll be promoted/relegated for next season?

Rugby League News

Rugby league clubs see key changes made to IMG grading

An updated grading criteria handbook has been published by the RFL, with a number of changes affecting rugby league clubs.
The previous handbook from June 2023 has now been replaced by one from March 2024, and thanks to some excellent work from The Tryline on Twitter, rugby league fans have been able to see some of the key changes.
This means clubs have had slightly different aims in order to obtain their ideal grading – although it’s likely they were made aware of these changes long before the public were.
League position points have slightly changed, due to there now being 35 teams in the league system rather than 36, while other slight changes include widening of social media engagement criteria (more platforms are included), while it has been confirmed that Super League+ viewing figures are not included in TV viewing figures.

Changes to stadium requirements include even better facilities for broadcasters, as well as allowing clubs that own their stadiums to include the value of the stadium on the balance sheets.

The most significant six weeks rugby league has known for quite some time is now officially underway: but it will be a while yet before clubs can reveal their 2025 IMG gradings to the world.

September marks the period when all clubs in Super League, Championship and League 1 begin to submit their data to IMG and the Rugby Football League. Each division has its own separate deadline; essentially, the Monday after the conclusion of their regular season.
That will entail clubs submitting everything from finance to digital and community for IMG to consider – but there is still a long way to go before any club in any division is aware of their official grading.

The RFL are engaging in an informal process to avoid a repeat of the situation with Castleford last season, when there was an error in their submission which wasn’t spotted until it was too late, leading to them being awarded a lower grading score than they should have.

But this process, Love Rugby League has been told, is purely advisory – and no scores of any kind are being shared yet. That appears to be where the confusion over scores being revealed this week has stemmed from: but no side will know an official score yet.

That is because, simply put, scores cannot be finalised while there are still rugby league games ongoing that could decide what a team ends up on.

As of the time of writing, every single side except the four who missed out on the League 1 play-offs do not know where they will finish – with IMG’s performance aspect of the gradings determined by how far a club gets in the play-offs, as opposed to their actual league finish.

So there are still plenty of moving parts, meaning it is essentially impossible for any club to know their official score yet.

After the RFL have consulted with clubs, the data still needs to be submitted for an external audit. The RFL and IMG held a tender process this year to find a third-party quality assurance partner to help with that audit, meaning everything is completely independent. That process has not yet started.

Clubs will then only be notified of their score when the final competitive match of the season – the Championship Grand Final – has taken place. It is expected that over the weekend of 19 and 20 October, they will know where they sit: but not anyone else.

Two days after that, clubs are given the information of every other team’s score and where that puts them in the rankings before, the following day – Wednesday 23 October – all scores are made public.

So while we are getting close to finding out exactly what clubs have scored, there is still some work to be done yet.

Timetable for 2025 IMG Gradings Process

  • Monday 2 September: Deadline for data submission for League 1 clubs
  • Monday 23 September: Deadline for data submission for Super League clubs
  • Monday 30 September: Deadline for data submission for Championship clubs
  • October 1-18: Tender process with assurance partner to ratify all data and scores
  • Weekend of 19-20 October: Clubs informed of their official score for the first time
  • Tuesday 22 October: Clubs informed of all other clubs’ scores for the first time
  • Wednesday 23 October: IMG gradings for 2025 made official for the first time

And this is why london are sitting 24th in the grading! Build an A grade class club and you’ll be in SL. The self entitlement in this is part of their problem. Id he’s really spent tens of millions and they still sit behind some tiny clubs in key areas then I’d suggest he’s pretty shthouse at managing a prof club!
HKR have gone from championship to A grade and top of SL with a fraction of that investment.
