no doubt young Mr Mitchell is an immense talent and future superstar but at the minute how many games has he cost the roosters with his erratic dumb and unstable playing style, I imagine roosters would have come away with more points for the table so far this season with minichello or rts at fb in those games, his talent and skill needs to be harnessed by the coaches or the margins in tight games will never be closed

Be careful of calling someone dumb, when you can't scrape a fullstop into a four-line comment.

The subject matter is even more f**king childish than LM, the kid is doing a great job for a kid, because he carries himself like Artie doesn't mean he is expected to work miracles thrown into the deep end . . . f**ked thread

he's definitely been rocks and diamonds. at his best, he's shown he can kill it in the nrl. at his worst though he makes some pretty simple mistakes.

do the roosters persist with him? well i'm not sure what other options they have. i have no doubts he'll be a much better player towards the end of the year once he's really had time to being used to having to be "switched on" for 80 minutes at this intensity

Even in NYC last year he was a bit error prone, he doesn't read bombs well or is too casual with them or something. HE is too god for NYC or even NSW cup now even at only 18yo, ideally you would just have him on the wing where he can find his feet at this level without so much pressure on him at fb.

Ideally he should have been brought into the side on the flanks so he can learn the pace of the game and get used to playing at the highest level before he was placed in a key position in the spine. That goes without saying, but the Roosters hand was forced

Once RTS signed with the Warriors we had the choice of playing a seasoned player there who has never been a fullback (Fergo) or going with Latrell

Yes we had cap space, so we possibly could have looked around for a fullback but there weren't any available in the off season worth buying in

We tried to lure Lachlan Coote down from North Queensland as he would be an obvious choice for Latrell to learn from but that's fallen through and we're back to persisting with Latrell

The Roosters are more than aware of the limitations he is currently bringing to the team playing with so little experience in such an important position - but to be honest we don't have much choice.

Jennings may have been able to cover the position, but something happened in our relationship with him and that went down the toilet.

We've little choice but to persevere

He's supposed to be Churchill, Langlands and Slater all rolled into one isn't he? Let's wait and see. It's entertaining to watch at the moment. Like watching a car crash.

Jennings?! Mate, Jennings has played just about all his career in the centres. He has less experience than Ferguson at fullback.

They let Jennings go as he had an offer on the table from Parramatta, Copley had become available after being released by the Broncos, and with guys like we had coming off contract, they knew they would not be able to re-sign Jennings and keep all the others younger players coming off contract (e.g. Cordner, Evans, Napa, Hastings) in the next couple of years. Hence they let Jennings go early as it freed up cap space.

They've thrown all their eggs in the one basket with Latrell, they have no choice but to persevere for the next season or two and see if he can fix up his errors.

I was saddened to see Cordner tear shreds off him during the game on Monday. Not the way to support young up and comers

Everyone needs to cop a spray every now and then. Everyone...as long as it was sorted out and doesn't happen too many times, it's fine.

Everyone can see his ability and we now have to persevere. By all reports his attitude is great, he works hard and he takes his errors harder than anyone else.

Best thing about him is that the tighter things gets, the more he becomes involved and wants to win. Yeah it's a bit clumsy and impatient at the moment, but I think what he's going through now will hold him in pretty good stead long term.

Having Jennings would have at least given up options - plus even if he remained in the centres his defence wouldn't have left Mitchell as exposed and therefore less prone to making errors in the first place

The cap space needed to be freed up for next season - so don't let him go early

Swapping Jennings for Copley is like deciding against a blow job from Alessandra Ambrosio and deciding to stick your dick in cow shit instead

It was a strange and awful decision that we didn't need to make

Yeah that's good.

Agree though, I can actually understand Maloney, RTS etc, as unhappy as that makes me. Jennings there seems to be no common sense reason for it and it's hurt us badly.

He shouldn't be in first grade at the moment. He has the potential (not IS, not WILL BE, but has POTENTIAL to be) an absolute superstar. But like OP says, he makes a lot of dumb mistakes and takes impatient options, as can be expected of a young player in a struggling team. Hastings and Nikorima are the same.

We simply don't have a better option. Hopefully he comes out of it a smarter player. Pearce being on the field will help, we've played with 3 rookies in the spine for 8 weeks.

I get where you're coming from, but I don't think the public nature of Cordner ripping into him for taking an option which didn't turn out great is the way to go

as the op I didn't intend to use this thread to knock the kid at all, yes he will be a superstar but its more to highlight how using a rookie in such a crucial position can cost ladder points as the roosters are now finding out, play the balls, carries with one hand and impetuous brain explosions need to be sorted out by the coaches -that's what they earn their corn for
