Leading the comp

Not me. I was asking for Maguire’s head in 2016

Edit- But I must admit I wasn’t expecting THIS from Seibold

Madge's style was never going to work long-term!!

Seibold has Sths playing in a way[much much better] than they could ever under Madge--even when we were winning back in 2014 & prior!!

This present side is going great guns now & I believe they can go to another level, if, & when required!

Seibold is bringing out the best in ALL players.

Guilty as charged. Dickhead number one reporting for duty.

Thought it was the worst decision ever.

Man that humble pie is more than bearable though when it means you're leading the comp.
:joy: At least you're man enough to admit it.

I thought Madge had grown stale and needed replacing, but I definitely wasn't sold on Seibold.

He came with high praise as a defensive coach from his years as an assistant, but I would never have imagined that he'd revolutionise our attack the way he did.

I think I may have been one of the only people who backed the Madge sacking and the Seibold appointment right from the start (that's not being cocky or anything, I'm just saying), I always had faith that we'd improve under Seibs. However, I'm quite happy (over the moon to admit infact) that I didn't think we'd improve this much. It really is just amazing the way this year has gone, incredible!! What's more, there's still such a long way to go.

It's important we don't get ahead of ourselves and that we stay grounded. Like I say, there is still a long road ahead and literally anything can happen. We must remain focussed and humble but at the same time, I think there is genuine belief that we can do this in 2018!!

This was pretty much me as well. I was calling for Madge to go in 2016, but did not expect the miracles that Seibs would work.

One thing that I never understood was the sentiment that there weren’t any candidates that could possibly take over. Robinson won a chip his first year, McGuire his third, Green his first (i think) and yet there were people claiming that because there weren’t any experienced coaches out there that we didnt have anyone to replace Madge. Every coach has to debut at some time and some of them are f**king brilliant. Hopefully Seibold is one of them.

What interests me there is how we've scored 40 odd points more but let close to 40 more in. We just need to improve in defence a bit I feel. So we are letting in about 17.5 points a game currently this season!

The other thing is the lower placed teams aren't causing anywhere near as many upsets as 2014. That 9 and 7 has us around 4th in 2014 I think. This year if you had that you may even be in 9th lol.......

I'm getting pumped for this run home!

I definitely was against the Madge sacking. From what I was told the way that he was sacked was f**ked up and I think I found emotions getting the better of me. Madge was a great guy but it seemed as if the players were over his approach.

However I do believe Seibold is reaping off of Madge’s hard work. He came into the head coach position after Madge had basically set the 2018 team. I will always remember Madge for what he brought to this club but I think Seibold understands the modern game a lot more than he does. If Seibold brings us number 22 then they’re both Souths legends as far as I’m concerned.

Yeah also in 2014 we ended up 15-9 so we only dropped 2 games in our 2014 run home, ended up on 34pts conceding 14.8 per game for our final 8 games (there was a 2nd bye in 2014)

You’re right but. D is where we need to improve in our run home this year.

That mate is why I think Hunt is a better choice at left centre over Douiehi.

I dont wanna be a wet blanket, but I am not that impressed with our form. Don’t get me wrong, leading the comp is awesome and we are way ahead of where I expected. I think I said somewhere between 7-10th, so it is brilliant to be well ahead of that. But our form hasn’t been that great of late. Our last 3 games have included a terrible performance against the Titans, a 1 point win over the 15th placed Cowboys with no Scott or Morgan and an inept first 30 against the Eels where we were behind 3 tries to one.

A win is a win, but we havent really played a full 80 since June 1st against the Sharks. Fingers crossed we continue to improve over the back half of the season.

It's seems that too many of our wins have been heart attack material.........no pun intended itsa.

Our best games have come against our better opposition, the Dragons, Warriors and Sharks win were fantastic, but we’ve played down to our competition against the shit teams. The way the Broncs smashed the Titans yesterday is what we should have been doing the last month.

Souths seem to struggle against weaker opposition and have done so for years imo.

It’s difficult to maintain the same intensity every week in the NRL especially considering we have 4 origin players and like 8+ rep players in the starting side. I get where you’re coming from but I don’t believe in the modern age you can expect a team to be smoking every single team they come up against. It’s more like every few games you’ll see a top team absolutely demolish another. I think the fact that we play so shit and end up winning the games is an indicator of how clutch we really are as a side. Just an opinion though from what I’ve seen the last couple of years from premiership winning sides.

Anyone getting upset about Souths' form this year takes a bit of pleasing, in my opinion. There's a lot to be said for just doing enough to win, especially at this time of the year when the side is chopping and changing every week due to rep duties. And, as others have noted, the best performances have tended to come against the stronger sides, which is just what you want.
Of course, I also stated categorically at the start of the year that this was a top eight side but not a top four side, so that shows how much I know
