As happy as I am that they flashed the cash, why did Wests bail out Balmain. I don't see the upside for them ?

They didnt just bail out Balmain ...they re-enforced the future of WT which only makes Wests Ashfield stronger in the long run...progressive thinking

I think it was to stop the club being looked at as a candidate for relocation.

If they take control of the leagues club they obviously see a potential to make money.

While I'm sure part of the reason is altruistic, they are a business, and a very successful one at that and they won't throw good money after bad.

I saw a TV news article saying we may get the Rozelle site back as the club, unless the Government take possession of it to build road infrastructure. Hmmm, No wonder West Connex is a " partner " with Wests Tigers?
