I'm really happy for him, but I think it's yet another serious blunder by the
Warriors management, a' la Ivan Cleary's departure as a player.

Yes - I know it's $'s at the end of the day but Wade is not the player that
Webby is and I believe they have stalled their own premiership plans.

Onya Webby, good luck mate.

Good luck Webby. Thanks for being a good player over the past few years. Hope to see you still turn out for the Kiwis - will this still happen given that he was 'only' a permanent resident not a NZ Citizen?

Interesting dilema now. This was the first thing that came to mind when he became a kiwi "what will happen after the warriors". I guess now we'll find out.

If you're thinking back to what's happened in the past...let it go. Money or not this stuff happens. it's a professional's sport.

Exactly.

I'm sad to see him go, but thats the salary cap era.

Good decision all-round really. Reading between the lines there was no way the Warriors could afford to retain Webb and jeopardise their chances of signing and retaining all other players.

He'll be a loss on and off the field. I think I speak for most fans when I wish him the best, and absolutely and totally thank him for his efforts at the Warriors. He's been a valuable player for us and he's having a great season.

OK.....but I'm not sure any of you understand his importance to this team.

Time may prove me wrong

He'll be a massive loss to the club Skinner, that much I definitely agree with. Like all fans, I'll miss his service to the club. He's been a terrific player for us over the years. There's some magic memories like how brilliant he was and how crucial he was in turning around the 2003 season from a perilous situation of nearly missing the 8 to a near unstoppable position of nearly making the grand final again.

But if we resign Webb, do we also not resign Manu Vatuvei and Simon Mannering? I don't know the ins and outs to be honest but the vibe I get is its a potential saving of $100-$150K to allocate to retention and signings of other players.

Brent Webb as fullback for Great Britian within 2 years. ;-)

Nah he cant now...Since the Toni Carroll debacle the rules have been changed.

I thought him more a playmaker than a fullback, as a playmaker I would have kept him. As a fullback I think otherwise....

In saying that i wish the guy who was a 100% team man the best of luck..for the great service and loyalty that he provided the warriors. It is sad that due to salary cap restraints we cant afford to keep him

a sad casualty of the cap and previous management's decisions.
when it comes down to it was proabbly going to be keeping webb or saying goodbye to the likes of vatuvei mannering etc. in the end they signed vatuvei and other young players for a few more years and didn't have enough left to keep webb as well.

Writing was on the wall when they gave him too much at the start so couldnt shift another notch up with the money to keep him here.

Not convinced Mckinnons going to come over here and if there s a chance he isnt and if in a couple of weeks we dont look like making top 8 I reckon Clearys going to have to start blooding a few backup blokes in to the fullbacks posy for the remainder of the season or well start 2007 behind

fullback for the Jetz in the Bartercard.
Has played only the last 4 games for them at fullback, and has made a big difference to the side in general..
wishful thinking on my part maybe, but I'd be stoked if the Warriors nabbed him.

He's no chance of playing NRL. Simply not good enough imo.

well they may or may not have payed too much for webb on his last contract. the reality is that paying a fortune for price and wiki especially has meant consquences down the line and losing webb is one of them.

all the talk is that mckinnon is coming. time will tell very soon if this is true or not. I still think our chances of making the 8 are slim. with some more wins though it could be a possibilty. I am sure cleary will try someone at fullback if one isn't picked up in the market and the top 8 is gone.
