DRAGONS MOVE ON LEILUA

St George Illawarra has made a substantial stride forward in their bid to re-sign Luciano Leilua by officially launching talks with his new agent this week.

Market Watch can reveal the Dragons kicked off talks for a two-year-deal with the backrower’s manager Mario Tartak on Tuesday.

Leilua has joined NRL agency Crown International Sports Management after splitting with his former manager and the Dragons have been assured they will be given the final right of reply to any offer the youngster is considering.

“It’s very exciting to be managing such a high quality youngster such as Luciano,” Tartak told Market Watch.

“Luciano has the qualities to be on par if not better than his brother Joey.”

In a positive sign for the red V, Leilua returned to pre-season training with the club despite still being a free agent.

While the Dragons have publicly stated discussions are advanced, the split of management means negotiations are back to square one and the club will need to start from scratch with Tartak.

Should things play out the way the joint venture wishes, Leilua will be locked into a deal until the end of 2018.

The 20-year-old played five NRL games this year and had a big season in the Holden Cup.

good news for us saints fans he is probably putting pen to paper "as we speak" I really "hope we don't stuff this up" excellent addition to our forward pack who have been lacking up front with Mose back and Vaughn signing looks good to bad we now lack in the halves one day it'll all come together .. and by that I mean McGregor gets sacked and doust stands down

If he doesn't sign it will not be any fault of the cub they have done everything possible to sign him.

So he has a new manager, that should not affect our offer, all the groundwork has been done, so it should be done very fast

Recruitment have really redeemed themselves over the last 6 months, it was looking dire there for a while but they've answered the fans call to retain our talented juniors as well as pick up a few really solid first graders.

If all this talk of Hasler signing on next year is true, he could attract even more names. I'm thinking Moses Mbye in particular.

You are putting the cart in front of the horse here guys.
The post clearly says negotiations are back to square 1.
He has a new manager as he wanted better skills from the man looking after his future which can only mean he wants more of something.
It states we have last right of offer, which indicates others are back in the game and potentially means if he gets better offers and we don't better them we lose out.
This is a business deal and will only be considered a good deal when it is done and dusted in our favour.
Imagine if he was to leave for less money than we offer, that will then be a different set of circumstances so lets not get too over joyed just yet.
Fingers crossed though.

Gents hopefully promising is the fact that on the player profile of Dragons website it has Luciano there as a Lock/Second Row, so hoping that's a good sign for us.

The competition is going to be on this year within our forwards, so he will need to be right up with it fitness wise but you would expect him to step up to the challenge.

On a separate point,
I'm liking the look of our group of forwards and there's some good depth there, with size for once.
Going to be interesting the first 6-8 games of the year.and where we are at as a unit.

He will stay a dragon has verbally agreed weeks ago with him training with the team but he wants a clause that he wants to after 2018 to play with his brother that comes off contract with Canberra 2018 also dragons will need to sign them both on a package long term both dragon juniors .

Hogwash IMO
Joey will make the Kangaroo squad in the next year and is knocking on the door of SOO now and it all came good for him at the Raiders so why would he or why would they want / allow him to leave.
We are all applauding our new found passion to keep our juniors and everyone is wax lyrical about how good our outside backs stocks are and you suggest that will all be swept aside for Joey who left us under a behavioural cloud to sign with us so we can keep Luciano who is unproven at first grade.
Luciano might be promising but he doesn't carry enough kudos to contemplate that deal getting over the line.
