Bloody hell. I'm a big fan of Les, and usually he is right on the money. But this is utter tripe. In fact, it was Les Murray himself who opened my eyes fully to the levels of corruption at the top levels of the game of football (especially FIFA and UEFA), which are on par with the corruption in the IOC. Thankfully, being a regionalised sport, we are spared such corruption (for the most part). But there is no way known football as a sport is squeaky clean. Any sport that gives young men sh*tloads of money (and football utterly dwarfs league in that regard) and time on their hands is going to ultimately face trouble from some of those young ment going off the rails.
Others have already raised what is without doubt the grubbiest and most corrupt sport in the world, road cycling, a sport promoted heavily by SBS and ignored by all other media outlets. Les is one of the senior people at SBS sport, and if he is unaware of all the sh*t that goes on in cycling, then I'm a Queenslander.
Nope, I think this time Les' personal prejudices are coming out. Because as a kid he was given sh*t for following soccer instead of league or rules, he carries a big chip on his shoulder about both sports. I guess we all have our blind spots.
