Full dinosaur approach. It is the future of marketing. Do it right and reap the benefits in the future.

Without wishing to define your point for you can you flesh it out

For example a marketing resource to cover sm would cost about 100k

How would sm win more memberships than say a saturation campaign in local schools with a 100k purse

Im not saying use social media purely for membership drives. Look at the way premiership clubs do it. They do Q & A's with players, competitions for fans, all kinds of simple things like that improve the clubs standing within the community. We all complain they don't communicate with us, yet they have the perfect channel to do such a thing right in front of them.

Its a way to keep the current and new generations interested. They're on social media all day, we are missing a trick at the moment. I certainly think targeting the youth market through social media could improve game day crowds.

P.s also not advocating replacing traditional methods like school visits etc, this is a perfect way to supplement that. Imagine how excited the kids would be if the sharks or a player communicated directly with them on social media.

You have it arse about face.
The traditional methods of marketing are & will continue to be the best.
TV, community visits, TV, winning, TV, radio & ofcourse, Tv.
Social media is a tool to engage the small proportion of the population that use it & it is used as a flollow up for the marketing tools that actually do work.

What about the current generation that only watch tv shows they downloaded off the net? Times are changing. I'm not suggesting we stop traditional marketing but you cannot discount the importance of social media.

TV? Haha. The few people who don't tune out during ad breaks are using co media. They are on their smart phones or tablets, completely ignoring the advertising content. TV ads aren't dead, but they just got moved to the nursing home.

Frenzy.
