I remember that game back in 2000. I remember seeing the picture of McCracken upside down in the air.
Since then I have come to hate everything that is related to Melbourne Storm.
Why, because Melbourne ended what was the re-birth of Wests and Balmain back in 2000. Since that game the tigers have been down in the ditches. Since that game I have never wanted the Storm to win at all.
My first game of Rugby League was at Leichhardt Oval against the Storm. Balmain won and i walked out of that ground a new Tigers fan.
Melbourne Storm, to me, brings together everything that Wests Tigers is not. They represent the greed and expantion of the NRL for the sheer $$$. It represents the reason why clubs like Balmain, Wests, Manly, Norths, Souths, Newtown and others had to merge or die just so that there could be room for a few thousand fans in Melbourne.
I cried when Melbourne won the Grand Final. That was one of the saddest days i can remember. I remember the 40-10 win over the storm at leichhardt during the hoppa/drugs affair and i become happy again.
I have alot of respect for the plays such as Billy Slater and Scott Hill. They and a few other storm players are good players and have alot of tallent and rightly deserve praise...
They rightly deserved every win over the Wests Tigers (except in 2000), but i still snigger at the thought of them beating us. But i accept it.
Not Tonight!
I would rather die a million times over in the worst possible way than see Melbourne Storm beat the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval. If I was in that dressing room before the game I would tell the boys to go out there and play like there was no tomorrow, because if thats what it will take to beat the team that, to me, represents the opposite of everything that our club is, then thats how they should play!
Wests Tigers represents 197 years of blood, guts, glory, triumph, loss, pain and dispare......... but it is all those things that echo around that ground and tonight will lift those 17 players so high that Melbourne itself will come crashing down!
If it be by one point, then we would have won.
But let me just say it now:
Wests Tigers tonight must and WILL beat the Melbourne Storm at Leichhardt Oval!
