Lineal Ranking system

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! This is hilarious! Thanks for making me laugh until I almost vomited.

So far, the lineal system has picked 6 out of 9 winners in this world cup, with the three wrong selections being wrong by a total of 3 just 3 points (including a draw). In fact,so far, a favourite has not lost by more than 2 points. I would be interested to know how your tips are going, or what other system has produced a more accurate ranking system.

I'd ignore what the rakings say until the end of the tournament anyway. Besides it's not exactly a proper ranking method, just a decent estimate of what's going on at the time.

Boxing might be an interesting method to use. That way the Poms could slip the RLIF some coin and earn themselves a number one ranking. Or if that doesnt work they could hold compete in a breakaway WBO World Cup.

I like this system. It is an alternative to the monotony of the normal ranking system, where Aust is far in front and everyone else way behind. Every game has much more meaning. The prob is if team 1 doesn't play, no one can overtake them, but they will always play eventually, and will lose eventually.

I think Scotland should move to one place behind Italy. They are equal but have not overtaken them.

Good work in maintaining this. It is enjoyable to see the movements, even if it is not official.

I can't believe people are reading this and thinking that these rankings are your own personal and entirely legitimate views of where the teams ranked.

There's a whole football (soccer) 'World Championship' based around this very concept.

Thanks to England's warm up loss, apparently this system is going to really screw up the ranking of England and/or New Zealand by the end of the cup  by virtue of Tonga exiting the comp with a win against previously unbeaten Italy, those two are frozen behind Australia now, the only way they can be jumped is by someone beating Australia

2 Tonga
3 Italy
4 Scotland
5 England
6 New Zealand
7 Samoa
8 France

And in the spirit of that interpretation, this weekend:

Scotland will be defending 4th place against New Zealand
Australia will be defending 1st place against the USA
England will be defending 5th place against France
Samoa will be defending 7th place against Fiji
