I haver brought this band up with my mates, and none of them seem to have heard of them...But they're really mad.

If you haven't heard them, they're sort of a mix between Trapt, Hoobastank and Staind...Only better imo.

Another kick-ass band are Japunga. They're an Aussie band and I reckon they're awesome.

Anyway, my point is - nobody has heard of these guys. I walk into JB HiFi or whatever and they don't have it at the store - if I want the albums I have to order them. So it begs the question - are they really that unknown? Or is it that they're not very popular?

I have got no idea what the heck youre on about!?!?

is that entire post regarding "Japunga" or just the second half?

if just the second half - what are you talking about in the first?

have you ever heard them on the radio? If theyre popular it would be very strange that JB wouldnt stock them.

Sorry - I typed that first post in a bit of a rush.

I heard about bands like Depswa and Japunga through the Net. I have never heard them on the radio. But I heard Japunga on Channel [V] once and loved their song, so I went to a couple of record stores to buy their album. Couldn't find it. So I went to their website to get more info, and got some basic info on them. Much the same wit Depswa.

My question is - these bands aren't very well-known, are they? Because if people have heard of them, chances are I can get their album at some shop. But if they're unknown of...

Leading Edge music stores have a lot of rarer stuff....unsure if there are any in Sydney or where they would be sorry. Also there are several big music stores in the city, the one under Hoyts on George street being the one I can immediately remember...any independent record store is worth a look, the big chains sell popular stuff, indies sell a lot more not so popular stuff...

I've heard of Japunga. I actually saw them live when my friends dragged me to a gig of theres last year at Kings Cross where Club Blink use to be. They were pretty good actually, though I don't exactly remember much.

Julian87 - Okkervil River rule. New EP out next week :)

Carcharias - Rollerball are great - nice choice :)

Bazal - the store under Hoyts is Utopia and is great for hard stuff. Red Eye is another great store in the city. Also Fish, Hum and Pony Recoreds are good for indie/rare stuff.

Other ace bands at the moment are:

* Tapes n' Tapes - "Cowbell" is an awesome track.
* Midlake - "Roscoe" might go down as the best track of the year.
* Gotye - "Like Drawing Blood" is my fave Oz album this year.
* Young & Restless - Canberra band, fantastic live, seem to be getting that same feeling in their recorded work.
* The Exploders - ace little album, take a listen to "My Country Brain".

Japunga have a pretty big fan base for an Aussie band, done some fairly good gigs supporting other bands. They are QLD based so that's probably why it's harder to get ahold of their stuff. I would've thought though if you stayed away from the mainstream (Sanity) stores you should be able to get ahold of their albums.
