I'd be surprised if he did play. He's bound to get his cheekbound hit at some point in a tackle (not intentionally) and the pain from the jarring in tackles will be too much for him. It would be a shame if he didn't play but I just don't see how he can cope with the pain and play to his ability, he'll be a liability for the Broncos.

beale would feel like bert newton's grandkid would feel after they gave him pnuemonia and nearly killed him..

from a purely selfish POV, he should have left the field during last week's game when it happned..

Exclusive: Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer out of grand final qualifier

BREAKING NEWS: Darren Lockyer has withdrawn from the Broncos team for Friday night's match against Manly after 72 hours of deliberation.

After consultation with the Broncos medical staff and coach Anthony Griffin this morning, Lockyer made the heartwrenching decision not to play because of his fractured cheekbone.

He flew to Sydney in a helicopter yesterday sparking suggestions that he would in fact play.

The Broncos will call a press conference early this afternoon to officially announce their legendary skipper is out.

The Daily Telegraph understands boom utility Michael Gillett will play at five-eighth.

Earlier in the year they had the Broncos without Lockyer and got a win, Cowboys without Thurston when they were running hot, Storm without Cronk and now this again. Talk about a dream run against the big guys.

They're still a great side but wow they've potentially been gifted a few competition points which have certainly made a difference now!

Was always on the cards. Just that Queenslanders are stupid enough to think a bloke who is too ill to sit in Jetstar First Class for an hour can play a semi final for 80 minutes.

A sad and stupid end to a glittering career. Announcing this after his field goal the other night in front of that massive crowd would have been THE most fitting way to go.

They also copped Brisbane at Lang Park with half the team suspended, and flogged the Cowpats WITH Thurston.

If Brisbane win, expect Heather to play in the GF. Which will be a big paradox if they do as ell or better with Gillett at pivot!

Using a second rower at 5/8 has to work for us at some point. After dozens of failures we are surely due for success.
