Lodge is Perfect Galloway replacement

He only played 15 minutes on debut but I can see Lodge becoming one of the most damaging props in the game and play plenty of rep footy. 6'4 and 110kg Fifita clone who does all his work at the line.

I was stoked when we signed him as he dominated NYC. Good motor and workrate, offload and awareness at the line, great fend, hits well. Most importantly enthusiastic and wants work and has TALENT.

Im a huge Galloway fan but he is almost finished and will be certainly during next year.

Never rated Woods as more than standard NRL first grader. Has overachieved massively.
Lodge is much more special than that.

The only issue Lodge has at the moment, is he appears a bit sluggish. if he was a bit quicker on his feet, he'd hit the line harder and would be better than Fifita imo.

I don't think Woods has overachieved. His game has developed a lot this year. He's becoming a good ball player for a big man, his endurance and defence has improved greatly as well.

He looked lost in origin last year. This year though, he's not only holding his own, he's taking the game to the much more fancied QLD props.

Galloway looks like he's been trained by Sheens in the past to not worry about making metres, just get a quick play the ball.

Galloway does the Sheens shuffle, Heino and Galloway both do it as the hit the line. Stutter step and submit.
We need a Martin Lang type that runs full steam ahead regardless what's in front of him.

I don't know where all this hate for Galloway is coming from. He's been solid. His Stats last game:

14 Hit Ups
21 Tackles
120 Metres
2 Offloads

Is that really that bad?

The lack of offloads proves he just submits.
We lack 2nd phase play but that could also be we have shit support play.

Compared to lodge who played only 26mins compared to Galloways 55 mins

11 hit ups
91 metres
20 tackles
3 tackle breaks .. keith 0 tackle breaks.
And 4 missed tackles to Keith and zero for lodge.

So yeah his stats arnt that great really .. The guy has so much ability but doesnt show the hunger to use it.

Keith just needs to run hard at and through the line. I couldn't care if he didn't get a single offload away all game.

He's got the size, power and strength to be an absolute weapon if he hit it up hard.

but instead he tries to get a quick play the ball.

I don't think we will ever see Galloway run hard or 'sprint' with the ball in hand. I feel like he has always seemingly ran at 1/2 to 3/4 pace at the line. He could be so damaging if he showed more aggression but if we havent seen it by now I don't think we will see it in the twilight of his career

I'd rather a prop with 80+ NRL games replace Galloway, not a rookie

But looks like the marquee signing days are long gone

Galloway is here next year anyway. Im happy with our props for next year.
Woods Galloway Taupau Gavet Lodge Seumanafagai Sue Brown Blair
Great mix of youth and experience.

We need backrowers and outside backs.

As a previous poster pointed out, Galloway has always made his yards after first contact and he's bloody good at it. He's never been one to tear in 100 miles an hour. You blokes are asking him to do something that just isn't his game.

Whats the point of making yards 2kph while he plods away without even an offload looking likely the opposition have set their defence waiting.. anyway he HAS and CAN dent the line , but he unfortunately he isnt ballsy enough to do it often , imagine if he had the balls of moi moi ?

It has nothing to with balls. They are completely different styles of players. Admittedly Galloway is on the downward part of his career. But he's still making 100+ metres a game. He never gets dominated in a tackle. He's doing his job just fine.

What's the alternative. Would you prefer an absolute plodder like Buchanan replace him?

Im happy for Galloway to plod up to the line and get his 8m per hitup without offloads.
Just prefer he only gets 35min per game rather than 50 or 60. Opening salvo and a second half stint.

Galloway is still a good prop big man who hits the ground moving forward rarely on his back. Looks slower than usual but doesn't make mistakes. I rate Lodge kid is a monster and wants the ball.

100m a game is nowhere near enough! The pack need to be averaging 10m per hit up, any less and they are getting bashed, and you are most likely losing the game!

Just thought I'd better check the stats on the 10m per hit up average - and it seems most forwards average about 8-8.5m per hit up. Galloway is 8.4 woods 8.7, Blair 7.25, Gavet 8, Tapau 10.1, suemanfagai 9.8. Blair surprised me in that he is always running on the edges and gets plenty of game time but his stats are atrocious.

The standard for Lodge has to be in the 8's plus a 20+ tackle per game average ( subject to ample game time)

I stand by the 100m per game not being enough though.

10m per hit up is pushing it. Given that the defence doesn't stand 10 metres away and wait for the attacker to reach them.

By the time the forward receives the ball, the defence will have advanced at least 2 metres and will make up close to another metre by the time contact is made. (that's 3-4 strides after the play the ball)
