Looking at replacing my carpet

Looking at replacing my 15 year old carpet, I live in a unit, not pets or kids.

Carpet, Hardwood, Floating wood, Tiles, Laminate or Vinyl ? It's a world of choice.

Problem with the existing carpet is it was a light colour and easily stained and gets dirty easily (bought of the plan so had no say). So I want something that is easy to clean and can stand up to a spilled drink, also want durability for wear in keys areas like just outside the kitchen and bathroom which are tiled.

Any thoughts or experience on the various options ?

Hardwood or floating is what you'd probably want. It looks dutier and dirtier to some, but that's only because you can see what you couldn't before.

The hardwood is especially durable, and since there are no pets or kids it will last for ages.

It can depend what rooms you are talking about. Floating timber floors are pretty popular but not for bedrooms.

Carpets for Bedrooms.

Timber floors for living areas as tiles are very cold in the winter which is something you need to think about. Though as your in a unit, be aware it can be annoying for units below you when you go to Tiles or Timber flooring as the noise resonates.

Have to agree with most of the above. Carpets in bedrooms, tiles in laundry and bathrooms and polished hardwood flooring everywhere else.

When I built my last house in 1997, it had polished hardwood flooring in the kitchen due to the fact that at the end opposite to the formal dining area was the study.

A bit stupid going from floorboards then to tiles for the kitchen and back to floorboards for the study!

Depends what level you're unit is on. You don't want to be 'that guy' who installs timber floor boards above your neighbours space...

We just pulled up a floating wood floor in a dining room/ family room area and replaced it with Rhino Smartstrand carpet. We have three dogs who are in and out all the time. It is absolutely brilliant. Cleans easily. Won't hold dirt. Sound deadening. (We pulled up the wood floor because of the dogs nails clicking on it and sliding on it).
Also feels great.
I recommend it.
