I don't think the majority of people are that short sighted or fickle.
Especially sponsors. Plus building long term success will bring in more fans.
This seems to have been one of the more sucessful years for the club financially and as things on the field improve so too will memberships and sponsorships.

Sponsors and members are often bandwagoners. A s**t season can be the difference between sponsors signing or and members renewing.

A wooden spoon side isn't going to atrract sponsors or convince fans to sign up as members, no matter how much the club sweet talks the future.

I don't think Kearney or anyone else at the club is particularly concerned with this year's result.
Sure it would suck if we finish with the spoon but when the only signings possible were a million years old and fat do you really think winning the year was a priority?

That doesn't mean they haven't tried or won't be trying in each game but just that their eyes have been set on the future for a lot longer than many here realise.

I can picture it now. Hindy, Fui, Burt, SK and PO all pleased with the spoon considering the players we had.

I think one of the reasons we have so many fans is the roller coaster nature of our performances year after year. We're certainly an exciting club to follow and when we finally win another premiership the emotional payoff will be massive.

Anyway I think the spoon this year will have a minimal effect on marketing for next year. The new signings will bring the punters back, and when we do go well next year there will be that whole rags-to-riches vibe that sells so well.

The media will be all over us next year, for good or ill. And as they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Come in spinner.

Totally disagree.

People get on a team based on how they're expected to go that year, which is only tangentially related to how they went the year before.

I reckon there will be a massive buzz around the club with Sandow and Tonga on their way. Plenty of people are excited about next year - even last night half the articles about Souths' win mentioned Sandow coming to the Eels next year.

The media f**king love us, even when they hate us.

I think one of the reasons why we have so many fans is we have such a large market to advertise to. Much like the Tigers we've got got so many areas to promote our club too. It's really the advantage of being situationed in Western Sydney which is constantly expanding.

The AFL had the correct idea initially, but then they screwed up by signing a Canetoad who struggles in public speaking to be their spokesman for the the game in western sydney... a millions bucks for that is crazy.

True, but only to a point. There comes a time at the end of the season where fans have to decide whether it's worth renewing their membership or it's not worth the effort. A poor season is going to affect that decision. It has to me in the past. You've got to think think of everyone Poupou, not just those who think along the same lines as yourself.

Why would he do that, he's always right, and everyone else is wrong.

I reckon the support base of a pro club these days is largely divorced from geography. Especially inside a city.

I grew up in the West and I knew loads of kids who supported teams from other parts of Sydney, other parts of NSW and even other states.

Alright but so do you mate.

Why should this year matter to potential members next year if they think we're going to have a good 2012?

Hell, people thought we were going to have a good year this year despite having a worse roster. Most fans are irrational and they also come into each season with a lot of hope.

If SK is worth his salt as a motivator/tactician, he will use the Titans' win as motivation for our bunch...

He'll run out at 11:30pm and buy the paper, cut out the ladder, photocopy it, circle our position in red texta, write "together we can do something about this" next to it, and get someone to glue it to the front of each player's personal locker before they arrive at the game. Surely realising we will in fact be last after this round is enough to get our guys to lift that little bit more that has been required to finish the 80mins and snag a win?

If SK's not worth his salt as a motivator/tactician, then over the next three games the team will play just like they have for most of the year and not get the necessary points to escape the bottom rung.

Yeah if he's worth his salt that's exactly what he'll do

Why do they even keep score? Can't everyone just watch the players run around?

That is true Poupou I will credit you for that. I grew up around the area and still live in western Sydney. On the other side of the scale I'm aware you live in Melbourne and it's a completely different situation there to the planning of the city. F**king hell the NRL would never work there. The shape of the city and geographics makes it impossible.
