That is true Poupou I will credit you for that. I grew up around the area and still live in western Sydney. On the other side of the scale I'm aware you live in Melbourne and it's a completely different situation there to the planning of the city. F**king hell the NRL would never work there. The shape of the city and geographics makes it impossible.

I agree the layout of Melbourne is totally different, and the main reason for this is the difference in geography, but why do you think this would stop the NRL from working down here? I'm intrigued.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work. It's just a comparison of the geography of both cities.

In Melbourne you've got 8 or 9 AFL clubs located in the CBD or are based close enough that all play out of 2 stadiums.

It's not like the situation in Sydney where we have a spiderweb of clubs. The distance between Parramatta and Penrith is further than the distance between Parramatta and Cronulla. Yet 'Parra vs Penrith' is considered a local derby.

So you reckon we shouldn't bother playing the final 3 games because we can't win the comp?

There are a lot of useless games played this time of year. Can't be helped.

To answer your question. No. But if I had your attitude I would question why even turn up in the first place.

The AFL is a lot different to the NRL with them relying on a draft system as opposed to using a salary cap to keep things even.

Generally in the AFL you'll see sides have more consistent waves of form over the years. Sides will finish in the top 4 three years in a row, then will miss the finals the next three years, then be a finals side again the following three years. In the NRL it's extremely difficult to build that aura, most sides go up-down-up-down-up-down on a year to year basis.
True but the benefits of the draft to a team finishing low on the table have been mainly negated the last couple of years and this year due to the afl expanding with the suns and gws. Those two new franchises have been given the bulk of the high end picks. It's why port will continue to suck for a couple of years unless they get some decent trades. Finishing last in 2010 didn't do anything for the weagles. John worsfold has done a great job with them to get them where they are now.

The afl also doesn't work off free agency yet, so the clubs can't go out and buy quality players off contract like we have done (hopefully) with sandow, roberts and tonga. They also don't develop their juniors to bring up to top grade because of the draft.

Well we won't beat the Titans twice in a season, doubtful we wil beat the Tigers twice. Beating the Roosters might be the only win in those 3.

Kearney's not too worried. This is just a rebuilding year. And if we suck next year, that will be a 'new players need time to gel' year.... it's all good.

At least for Kearney's sake his heros at Melbourne are going well.

So.. because there's a chance we might lose we shouldn't play?

That's a loser attitude mate.

No PP. There is always a chance that any team will lose. It is your attitude of expecting to lose and being satisfied with it that is a loser attitude. To quote Lomabardi - show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.

As for you calling anyone else a death-rider - you have to be kidding. You had killed the results, made the excuses and become satisfied before the season began.

I expect them to lose because they've got a worse squad than the opposition. That's realism.

If the Tigers play their best today then it doesn't matter how well we play - we'll lose.

Am I satisfied with that? No, I'm f**king furious our playing roster was allowed to come to this but I'm not going to dwell on it either. The causes are in the past and the solution is in the future - next year to be exact.

So if we lose today I won't be satisfied but I won't blame the coach or the players - I'm sure they'll all give 100%. But if we win today I'll know it's because the Tigers didn't give 100%.

To quote Lomabardi - show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.

Well mate, I'll quote myself and say "You and I aren't the ones on the field."

So whether we lose or not is out of our hands. lol@you if you think your atttitude is going to have any effect on the result.

 @ you

As for you calling anyone else a death-rider - you have to be kidding. You had killed the results, made the excuses and become satisfied before the season began.

I had definitely made excuses and taken stock of the reality of our chances but even I was hopeful we could do better than our roster indicated (I also didn't anticipate all our injuries coming at the same two positions) - I tipped us to come 13th. With no halfback and no centres this side should be coming last, and it's taken until round 24 and a half for us to get there.

But I'm not satisfied; I'm over it. I was over this season back in round 5 (I think) when I went to AAMI Park to watch us get belted by the Storm. The only satisfaction I get out of this season is knowing that next year will be so much better.

If I was the death-rider I would be predicting doom-and-gloom next year.

That's a decent length pre-match crawl SDM. Give us a match report after the return leg.
