The Panthers scored a second-straight win in the NSW Cup by defeating Newcastle Knights 26-12 in the Hunter on Saturday.

Brad Schneider led the Panthers to victory from a half-time deficit, scoring two tries, assisting one and kicking three goals.

Jaxen Edgar, who scored on his NSW Cup debut last week, was quick to make it two tries in two games. The Panthers fullback opened the scoring inside 5 minutes with a scintillating burst of speed to slice through the Newcastle line.

The Knights capitalised on some poor goal-line defence to score a swift response, and led 6-4 for a majority of the first half.

The Panthers clawed back the lead in the 34th minute when David Fale and Mavrik Geyer combined on the left edge, but an intercept try on the stroke of halftime sent Newcastle to the sheds with a 12-10 advantage.

After a frustrating first half, the Panthers owned the second stanza with Brad Schneider leading the charge.

Schneider showed strength and skill to score a solo try which put the Panthers back ahead in the 43rd minute.

The halfback then combined with Zack Lamont to open up the left edge for the Panthers next try, with Asu Kepaoa tiptoeing down the sideline to touch down.

Schneider put the Knights to the sword in the final play of the game, as he took on the goal-line defence and sliced through for his second.

I thought he was old news.

With Cole and Tailagi ahead of him in the 17.

Yeah but we need a 14. Toelau has been used in the middle with Kenny before.

If the halves struggle he can jump in there, If they don't then we run him at hooker.

Schneider is wasted if the halves are going well

Would be a strange one for me if IC doesn’t go with Schneider at 7.

As I said in the game day thread. We scored 5 tries v the competition favourites and had more kick metres.

Another week training and building up combinations > a new combination

That said Schneider has done all he can to state his case

Ivan said himself vs storm we had 2 5/8s so there needs to be a halfback. There was good effort worth being proud of but it was still a loss.

Hasn't played 7 yet this year has he? The draw/results has him centre in one game.
