I have no issue chasing the cash just retiring in mid 30's if he is lucky. Gives you 30 years of needing to do something else.

This point I think lots of sport stars in general forget. NBA in particular has a lot of ex players broke.

We are starting to see it more in ex NRL guys for various reasons, ex player is not in a good way. I mean the CBA was held up for these very reasons

I don’t begrudge anyone chasing money tbh, I’m disappointed when players leave of course but can’t blame anyone for looking to max out their cash.

Anyway I hope no one takes this the wrong way but it could end being a good thing for us. We are certainly a better team with him, no doubt. But teams need to evolve, cleary has another year with him and at the end Nath will be 27 with a smooth planned out transition to Laurie, or cole or whoever and Nathan should be going into his best years and his role should evolving somewhat. We save some money to help keep the next gen.

It’s only a shame that Cogger wasn’t given 2 years originally instead of 1 - it would’ve made the entire Luai potentially leaving situation a bit easier in plugging that gap.

If Luai does leave - I’m sure one of Cole, Schneider or Laurie can play the role in attack. But all 3 really need to improve their overall defence.

Luai is criminally underrated as a defender and that defensive synergy is where the biggest deficiency will be in the Panthers line up on that edge, should he leave.

Otherwise outside those 3 mentioned - is there a work in progress project in lower grades who might be ready by 2025 or 2026?

Agreed defence is our bread and butter, having 2 halves who can, as opposed to the remainder of clubs who might only have one at best...

I don’t think Jerome Luai is under rated defensively, I would have thought he is recognised as being a very, very good defender.
Fans of other sides don't see it because they buy into the hate. I've only ever seen him do 1 merkin move on the field and he trod on a player moving back through the ruck, think it was a Warriors game

Jerome has been great since he emerged against the Warriors all those years ago.

He really is a very good player, been great for us.

I don’t think he is worth the money being talked about, bit good luck to him If he takes it, I would.

I tend to agree with what you have said previously, in so much his money can be used to rebuild in other areas.

For what Ivan wants in defence yes. Alamonti has a heap of work to do.

May is untried.
Tago refuses medical treatment

McLean is a possible

But you'd think

Laurie/Schneider will be the halves pairing should Luai/Cleary not make W

With Tago refusing medical treatment, what is he refusing?
Surgery, Cortisone? Is there any other player like that going around?

I can see the positives in it, The risk is his replacement wanting to over play his hand or is a dud in defence.

The amount of centres we can bring into the side because of how good Luai is, Is a huge part of why we have 3 peated

Really like Tago but if he blows a knee or tears something seriously and won’t operate on it he’s done. Contact recurring injury until he fixes it.

Jesse McLean is very talented, and his little brother looks at least size wise like a young critta, only seen a couple games of that hm side last year but Casey was impressive. Also the young backrower who had older brother in the same team, we should be doing our best to keep those guys in the system, they could hit first grade at 18,19 if they kick on.

Laurie will never be a great defender but I think cole will be, he has the size and mobility and he can really tackle. Just needs to learn the system a bit better.

Cole works if we want to have the halves play both sides. Laurie is a like for like swap... great to have options to change things up

I have high hopes for Schneider. And with a potential halves vacancy in 2025 there is a huge opportunity for him.

O'Sullivan and Cogger didn't have a guaranteed spot. The stage may be set up differently for Schneider.
