Or take the 500k over 2 guaranteed now. Then the extra 500 for the following 2. All without lifting a finger extra and getting an additional 4 weeks off a year.

He already has 3 more rings than most blokes will ever see, so it's not like he needs to chase that.

We will soon see.

Personally I think To'o will have the better post footy career, time will tell

Doing what? Apart from a few guest appearances on podcasts I dont see it. Not a knock on him either, but there just isn't enough gigs in that space to go around.

You don't think that difference will be made up in the 10 years post retirement from staying in a successful team?

It’s possible sure, not a certain tho. A bird in the hand and all that. He’s got 3 young kids now possibly other family dependent on him. Based on his comments he wants to give them the best he can now not possibly in ten years.

Also I’ve got no doubt the idea of being the man is attractive to him but I doubt it’s more attractive than the idea of winning more premierships for his home club. Money is going to be the deciding factor.

Exactly. The extra contract money alone is enough for a deposit on rental property for each of his kids. The tenant pays it off by the time the kids are old enough to move into it, plus the increase in what it's worth in 20 years. That's with out touching the amount he gets if he stays.

I also agree that a guy with his ego would be all about the challenge of being the main Man, he would back himself for sure. Even if he failed, the kids get a house each, so happy days.

The advertising that used to be in Newspapers TV etc is going on line.

We are seeing it more and more in US and I know a few NRL players have even hired companies to run their social media accounts.

Getting paid endorsements instead of just a free steak at the local pub, This is where sport in general is heading.

The higher profile guys clearly get more. Guys like Inglis will be rolling in cash.

Munster is one who took less on field but will get the benefit later. There will be others that hopefully sets more guys up better post footy

I have no issue chasing the cash just retiring in mid 30's if he is lucky. Gives you 30 years of needing to do something else.

This point I think lots of sport stars in general forget. NBA in particular has a lot of ex players broke.

We are starting to see it more in ex NRL guys for various reasons, ex player is not in a good way. I mean the CBA was held up for these very reasons

All the "but he'll have a better career here" takes are assuming he fails at the Tigers. Luai is a fighter and a winner, there's no way he'll be thinking like that. Pulling the meme club off the mat and turning them into a force would be a career achievement easily comparable to being the 6th most important cog in another premiership or three at the league's powerhouse club.

Throw in the money and opportunity to shake up his game and its not hard to see why it might be attractive for him at this stage of his life.

Fair enough, I don't follow US sports, so not really up with what goes on there. I guess you mean post career as in being an influencer? I don't get that either, but thats an age thing. The idea that parasites make a fortune bludging of people makes me want to vomit. lol

I’m sure you would feel that way, but unfortunately success does breed increased value to players and the salary cap ensures you can’t keep them all.
Someone else will get a turn, when your time ends. That’s life in sport.
Besides your club "anyones club" will always have a roster turnover, its good to see stalwarts of our club, move on and play at another club, we had guys like scott sattler, and petro civinociva, james tamou and maloney, soward etc, salary cap was never meant to thin out the clubs roster, or even out the comp, it was put in place to ensure that each club doesn’t buy over their means, 4.5 million might be a bad decision on an unproven player, but not a 3 time premiership half, like ive said before, this is a steal for WT, and benji is Romeys idol.. not really difficult to see the angle here...

Is there any assurance that Benji will even be there come 2025. He's got no coaching experience, barely even qualified to coach......

I can't see this coaching gig as easy as many assume.

For Luai it's a huge risk.

Pretty much that is it.

It is better then sending out all the catalogues and stuff in the post I guess, well for the environment.

Who cares?

I just finding it almost amusing how so many are drinking the Benji Kool Aid. To me it has little basis in reality. Add in the shit show of the front office.......leads me to scream.....

Recent history has shown the Tigers particularly under Pascoe are a rabble. Not even peak Joey could fix them

I understand where your comming from.

The longer I think about the whole Luai deal, to me it sounds like one of those letters you get from a Nigerian Prince wanting your bank account details....to get an inhertience from an unknown rich relative. It has that type of smell about it.

Yet the media and others gobble it down, without reflecting on what's gone on before.

That was my point.

Does Jarome want this for his future, sadly it appears increasingly likely.

Maguire cared... a lot!. it fkn broke him.. benji is class, might not have the runs on the board, but he speaks and players do listen... romey knows he is there for the money, there is absolutely no illusion about that, api does too... difference is, together they can actually achieve something that the other players that leave for coin dont do, is improve the side, they won't be spooners if they are both playing

I think Benji will end up the same way as Maguire. Until the whole board and structure changes, they will churn through players like yesterdays dirty undies.

Benji had a good year 2005, and has done little since. It's a disaster waiting to happen, yet again.

The same speil was pulled out when Ivan went to the club, again with Maguire, Then Sheens.

Same with players. Hastings came and went in the blink of an eye, just one example.

Api, did he improve the team in 23......?

Benji comming out saying how the club leaks will stop.....has that happened ?

It's a continual redail.

I think coaching today is more man management, but agree that tactics play an enormous bit as well.
I’ll be corrected, but I don’t think Billy Slater coached previously? Benji has been around FG for nearly 20 years, with some great coaches, but agree it can all go wrong, but it what it is and he has a 4 year contract, no one can say what will happen, year by year.
TBH, us not getting the spoon is an improvement? Getting better players, makes that more realistic.

Different with Slater,

He doesn't need to organise a pre-season, short turn arounds. Deal with players who aren't up to standard.

They are the main reasons Wayne Bennett for example advises young coaches to run their own team
