IThe NRL should intervene and take the matter away from the Tigers, in the interest of the code, because clearly you have a club who's approach is to do nothing and hope the court case falls over again so they can keep the player.
...and therein lies the hypocrisy of a situation which has time and time again arisen in the NRL.
Because he is one of the marquee players in the side, irrespective of whatever misdemeanor he commits, he gets preferential treatment over a reserve/lower grade/average player who would have been cast out with no hesitation as well as being publicly condemned by the media (e.g. Tevita Latu). Same things can be said about the Brett Stewart incident 2 seasons ago, when Manly weren't going to place any disciplinary action on him, Todd Carney having a million and one chances at both Canberra and Roosters, the Greg Inglis domestic violence situation with his partner, and also when Joel Clinton got fined $50000 for having sex with a girl in the aftermath of the Matty Johns incident. You cannot tell me that Darren Lockyer would've got that punishment if he did it. In fact, the Broncos probably would've tried to sweep it under the carpet.
I don't know what the solution to problems like this is, but I do get sick and tired of the hypocrisy and double standard that is prevalent in these types of situations. A POSSIBLE solution is that the NRL should be given full discretionary power to intervene and allow some sort of 'consistency' in such matters. Ppl are saying that the Tigers board is weak as piss, hence why they didn't deal with it the first time. That maybe true, but the real issue is that it doesn't matter which club's board is stronger than anothers, it's about the quality of the player that is involved and the importance he has on his respective side that leads the board to make the decisions they do. I'm 99.9% sure that if it was some random Joe Schmo at the Tigers on a very low contract, the Tigers would've dealt with it immediately and would've suffered a similar outcome to Latu. So, whilst I agree with Overweight Moron's post that the NRL should intervene, if it was another club, they probably would've done the same thing as the Tigers have done so far (as has been shown by the other examples I've given above, involving Manly, Canberra, Roosters etc.)
