Sounds like the Tigers and Dogs must be competing for a player signing and Gould using his influence to bag out his competitors.

This is how The Mole is reporting the situation (taken from - https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/the-mo...t-in-decades--could-see-11-stars-leave_130623) -

REAL REASON BROOKS REJECTED TIGERS

So why did Luke Brooks reject the Tigers' offer of a three-year contract extension that would have almost certainly seen him finish his career a one-club man?

The truth is Brooks virtually had no option as the Tigers' offer was less than half the money he is currently on.

Brooks is on a $1.15m a season deal - money that is too high for the way he has been playing - and the Tigers offer was more around $550,000 a year.

The much-maligned halfback will now test the market but rival clubs won't offer him much more than the Tigers have despite his improved form in recent weeks.

I cant imagine Brooks knocking the offer back unless he has something else lined up. Cows seem most likley but they'll need someone else to take Chad.

Well, Tigers were apparently looking at,

Mitchell Pearce (born 7 April 1989) - so 35 at start of season 24,
Shaun Johnson (born 9 September 1990) - 33 & say 7 months at start of next season, so why not look at Chad?
Chad Townsend (born 10 January 1991) - 33 & 3 months by start of season 24.

Old head, experienced, why not?

Would rather Sam Walker if he became available. Would suit Sheens/Benji style. Can't see that he did much wrong at the Roosters.

Honestly those 2 guys are head and shoulders above anything Chad ever did. Also my feeling was they wanted an experienced 7 to go with Brooks as the organization is what he has always struggled with. With LB now likley moving on Im not sure the game managing 7 is a necessity.

Shane Flanagan 2December 1965..Sagittarius
Ben Hunt 27 march 1990..Aries

For guys I know, Aries and Sagitarian are a tight combination
These two will talk the same language and be more tight than even Hunt was with hook..Both confident as fk

I don't know what the club was supposed to do with Brooks. They have preserved with the guy for soooo long, gave him a gracious 200 game celebration and now they must look forward.
I'm not understanding what he's actually been offered, I've heard at least three amounts.
Suffice to say he told Benji personally that the offer was not enogh.
Does that mean the books closed.
In the tigers defensem any counter offer should be in the tigers best interest and finally not just for Brooks.
All along I've had a sneaky suspicion (since Bula was given the nod) that Sheens had a card up his sleeve or else he would have made an offer to Brooks that he wouldn't turn down....and that Ace just might be Tallyn Da Silva.
It's going to be interesting to see what effect if any this young kid will have coming off the bench and how that may change our attacking structure. This may have something to do with our future half.

Yeah, but I still think we need an experienced 7 for now, imo the position is too important.

Yes of course, I agree. My earlier comment about Tallyn was more to do with how Sheens and Benji are thinking...about where we are heading. This may effect the half we are seeking...it could still be Brooks

Tigerm@ Who do you think will be our ½ moving forward?
That’s a hard one, isn’t it? No one of quality wants to come here, but I think we have the money to offer Hunt a good offer, while we bring someone through, if in fact we have someone?
Looking at the lower grade results, no one is putting their hand up.

Yeah, they’ve obviously lost faith (by the looks) in Rua Ngatikaura? But atm we have the best 9 in the comp, so TDS will have some good people (Farah) guiding him?

I missed what Hunt had to say about Flanagan tonight but what has been said so far is:
Hunt does not want to play Hooker (age and old legs) and doesn't want to be part of a rebuild.
This indicates he want to win a grand final.
Queensland is his preferred destination for obvious reasons and Qld clubs are queuing up for his services.
The Tod Payten has put his support behind Chad Townsend to stay on with the Cowboys.
The Titans have offered 900k so if we were to prise him out of Saints we would be paying possibly 1-1.2mil.
Thoughts

Money well spent, if he takes us to the finals.

Another disaster if he doesn’t.

But Brooks has 11 years to do something and he hasn’t delivered.

QLD club’s $900k Hunt approach revealed as Flanagan’s huge Dragons headache laid bare

The question is, would he stay here for another couple of years, for $1.2m?

True True.
Last year I argued that our main focus should be building a finals std forward pack then go from there.
With Bulla being a revelation and other backs like To'a benefitting from our improved forwards its made our halves come under more scrutiny.
If we had a crystal ball it would be easy to know what to do.
Don't forget it's only been nearly half a season with a great pack with Benji and Sheens at the reigns.
Surely we could see more improvement from Brooks.
Don't forget Brooks lost AD and has had a disjointed backline to work with.
As a back (30yrs) I can say that this DOES NOT HELP.
