Lyon and Renouf

According to today's Sunday papers, Tim Sheens had informal talks with Steve Renouf last month who is looking for a final crack at the NRL. Steve Lavers confirmed though he was not going to be offered a contract. He may end up going back to Brisbane.

Lavers also confirmed interest in Jamie Lyon. Apparently we may structure his contract to give him less in first year (to keep under next years cap) but to increase his payments over the remaining years of the contract.

May free up Whatuira to play lock and Benny G hooker.

Geez that sure dont sound like Wests Tigers.

Though seeing as Lyon hates the city, bright lites, publicity etc etc I spose a low profile club with ties to an area on the outskirts could appeal to him/.

I hope we are not all smoking another pipe dream, but that would be a major coup for our usually shoddy management. :)

magpiemax, you usually have a good say in this all...where are ya??
Just got off the phone 5 minutes ago.No way are we after Renouf he is to old i'm told.
But in regards to Jamie Lyon, well let me put it this way to you Harry T.maybe involved in this possible signing. We are pro-active and Penrith can't fit him in.
I will definetely be announcing this signing first should it happen. ;-)

p.s...I'll make sure to remind you if I do announce it first, just to keep Jux happy.

i would not only be happy about getting lyon, but would also be happy if it had something to do with harry coming to the table and helping us get him.

hope you do get to announce it max.

the amazing thing is that we could all of a sudden have a backline with 4 rep players in hodgson, prince, whatuira and lyon and a future rep in benji

and next year you can add nathan hindmarsh

Its a shame that this didn't happen months ago. I know its not the Tigers management fault but if we sign Lyon it seems like Whaturia signing is a waste. But in saying that if Lyon did sign I would say him and Whaturia will be our signings. Maybe Elford could play wing but his hands may let him down there. I think backrow is an option for him and he did play lock at Penrith last year when Sattler was injuried.

Fitzhenry could play wing or come off the bench as a hooker and incase of an injury to someone in the backline. We would have so many options in the centres. I haven't even mentioned Wilson, Harrison (looks like future may be in backrow), Collis...

Max, the original post said we wouldn't be offering a contract to Renouf. The only reason I put that in was to show that we don't always hear about the players the club talks too.

Hopefully you'll be able to give us some good news about Lyon down the track. I just hope its not Fitzgerald playing mind games with him. :x

That would be close to the best backline in the comp imo. It's pretty balanced with quality halves centres and fullback. The only weak link is Elford (not because he's no good, just because he'd be out of position).
