Champion centre Jamie Lyon wants out from the Manly Sea Eagles.
The Telegraph can reveal Lyon has agreed in principle to a four-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans. He verbally agreed to the $2 million deal yesterday.
Lyon is due to meet Manly management today to seek an immediate release from the final year of his contract at Brookvale.
A Gold Coast source told the Daily Telegraph: “Jamie has agreed – he just needs the release from Manly.”
If Lyon is allowed to go, it will ease massive salary cap pressure at the club

If he wants to leave, they'll let him.

Press release will go something like:

'Jamie has been a fantastic servant for Manly, but the Gold Coast have offered him a fantastic financial package at this stage in his career, and we could not stand in his way."

Genuine question - if Lyon asks for a release and Manly say no, does Lyon have any options other than playing for Manly, sitting out the season having a sook or running off to the Country and playing for no one at all?

I know Lyon has done that before, but at his age now if Manly say no the most likely outcome is that he plays for Manly in 2013 surely?

If so, that means the Tits would have to wait another year and offer him a 4 year contract meaning he'd be 36 when he finishes that. If the Gold Coast cant get him now, they'll probably only offer him 3 more years from 2014.

He can Play SL for a Year

As much as I'd love for Judas to screw over Manly, Perry has to play hardball and make Judas play out the season at Brookvale (unless S.C pressure means they have no choice). Judas giving 75% to the club for 2013 is better than 100% of Ben Farrer of some other rookie nuff.

That said, the ultimate would be for Judas to walk out, and then the NRL refuse to register his contact at any other club. Manly loses, Judas loses, Eels fans rejoice. :D

Thought he'd be on close to 500k/yr at Manly anyway.. or close to it with all other marquee player allowances/Third party deals.

Yeah it's interesting. Manly are supposedly under a lot of cap pressure, though (not like the Titans aren't under their own pressure). Maybe Manly wouldn't/couldn't commit 500k for 4 years to him. At some point a club like Manly has to start looking for new leadership and new blood, while other clubs need some stability.

What is it with the Titans and long term deals? Lyon is 31 this year, so will be 35/36 (depending if he starts there this year or next) when his deal ends.
Talk about a nice super fund,

Manly's salary cap problems evaporated when they decided to raise the cap. They would have been $200k over but now are well under like most clubs.

Well that certainly makes the Titans a more interesting proposition for the next few years.

Although he is a merkin of the highest order, he is also the best centre in the comp (still playing at centre).

If they can get that fat lump Idris into some sort of shape and playing reasonable football they will have a solid backline.

Yeah, but that contract isn't for the next 4 years, is it?

There is a big difference between $500,000 a year for 2 years and $500,000 a year for 4 years.

The other issue with this mathematics is that Rothfield probably made all of the numbers up so who really f**ken knows what his deal will actually be worth?

Maybe the ATO will

Yeah, I couldn't even say it with a straight face...

Yeah fair point. It must be the security of a 4 year deal.

Or a new house :sarcasm:

If true o well. I am sure Parra fans will love this. The rumour late last year was that he wanted 3 years, we offered only 2. So whilst the tele have been wrong before this seems like it is true, especially after comments from the Titans CEO in previous days. He is easily the best centre in the game and will be a massive loss for Manly but at 31, 4 years is a massive gamble.
