Manly's salary cap problems evaporated when they decided to raise the cap. They would have been $200k over but now are well under like most clubs.

Actually, unfortunately for Manly they are one of the clubs that get the least benefit from the salary cap rise. A very high percentage of players linked to a percentage of the cap. The roosters have less than 10players tied to a percentage so they get a big boost when it goes up.

Considering he'd already be on close to that money (albeit with a shorter contract - he was looking at this year plus another 2 at Manly), it's hardly too good to refuse. Also it's not just about building a house. It is having his family settled in the area, kids going to school, wife has friends in the area. It's not all about money, Lyon has made reference many times through his career that his family was his first priority.
