Whilst I don't agree with you entirely DMC, I love that you say what you think.
Taking the piss? My name isn't "Joker". Five trys into August for a winger is not something to bring to the table in this debate
Nothing I've seen in almost 2 seasons from Kelso has shown anything more than mildly competent. Anything he does at that level could be done by anyone. The point that he's more stronger than faster is moot since we've got someone stronger and faster than him coming off the bench in Vuna.
I don't believe he stops as many trys as he likes to let the local rag know either. He's ordinary under the kick and apart from the occasional hit when coming off the wing, he's a hopeless defender in the line.
I'm disappointed he kept Tighe off the wing last year after his form in 2005 and now in 08, and was mystified by him keeping Uate out of first grade this year. And frankly, I'd like to see more of Vuna's running game and ability to hook up with Mullen's kicking game.
Jim has his draw backs.
McManus sure as hell does have drawbacks.
The main one being that because he started playing rugby league at a later age, he hasn't developed the basic skills that kids develop at a young age.
This is shown up by his inability to do simple draw and pass situations.
It is shown in him constantly holding the ball in the wrong hand relative to where the opposition defence is ( and hence taking away any opportunity of a fend/palm whatsoever ).
It is also often shown in his confusion of depth while on the wing in attacking plays where the ball is spread wide in a backline movement. He is either too deep, or too flat. This again, comes with basic skills developed at a young age. Countless occasions a try has been bombed because of this uncertainty.
His enthusiasm and commitment is 110%. That can't be denied. In attack, out of dummy half, where he can just pick the ball up and run, he is great. His ' rabbit ' runs are some of the best in the game from any winger.
It is simply the lack of basic rugby league skills that come from playing the game at a young age, and playing as many games as possible.
Solid, but still in the lower echelon of first grade wingers in the NRL.

Well put Karma.
Noone on here has ever denied that Jimmy has some problems in attack, especially with his positioning in relation to his inside men. I guess his lack of junior experience could well be the cause of some of the these issues and Id like to think the Knights coaching staff have a structure in place to remedy this part of his game.
What I cant abide though is posts like the ones from DMC sh*t canning just about every part of his game with no real explaination. Saying his defence is based on "luck" and that he has never busted any tackles, which are 2 of his best assets, proves just how ignorant some posters can be in here.
DMC is the bloke that spent a couple of years singing rudders praises and constantly bagging kurt gidley. Where is rudder now? How does Kurt Gidley go? Enough said :sarcasm:
Dont need him. McManus and Sau for centres next year!!!
To be fair though, we all spent a few years bagging Kurt Gidley.
Talking up Rudder is inexcusable though
It's not just skills, it's timing, positional play and all around general rugby league smarts that are his major drawbacks. If you're not progressing, you're regressing in this league.Scott said:It is simply the lack of basic rugby league skills
You're the one who put all his eggs in the basket of psychotic liars and came out looking a twat. Where'd your psychic-like predictions quote go? :lol:DMC is the bloke that spent a couple of years singing rudders praises and constantly bagging kurt gidley. Where is rudder now? My last words on Kelso: people are enamoured with him, I'll agree. But it all stemmed from people trying to desperatly find something constructive out of last season and the media grabbed onto it so they could tear down Smith while he released other locals.

Want an example of his lucky defence? Few weeks back in Gosford he did a usual inside-the-centre rush in off the wing to miss his man only to see Watmough(?) fall 10m past him and lose the ball in the dirt.

The only bad thing I've ever said about Kurt was that he was wasted in the 6. I'll also add that it wasn't merely opinion on my part either. Don't let yourself digest that last quote without having at least 3 people tell you how to interpret it.
I'll also add, Mad Dog spent a lot of time in the corner of the hall at the Knights 21st on his mobile. Didn't look like he wanted quiet from the crowds either, he wanted alone time.
