Making a Murderer

There are plenty of people out in force trying to defend the MCSD, saying that officers Lenk and Colborn had no motive to frame Avery because they were not part of the lawsuit. They should probably check out The Staircase 2: Last Chance.

This is a followup to the documentary series The Staircase, which is all about Michael Peterson, otherwise known as The Staircase Killer, who is currently awaiting a second trial after serious issues with his original trial were raised.

What's noteworthy about this is the forensics "expert" Duane Deaver who was proven to have lied about his credentials and experience and either withheld or fabricated evidence that resulted in wrongful convictions. The guy claimed he'd been trained by a dude who'd never even heard of him and they could only find records of 4 of the 200 cases he supposedly produced reports for. They even show videos of the forensics "testing" they did, where they set up experiments to only get the result that they wanted.

The guy gets fired, but then sues for wrongful dismissal and amazingly he somehow wins and gets 30 months of backpay (http://www.wral.com/state-panel-awards-discredited-sbi-analyst-back-pay/14160120/).

A 2010 independent review of the state crime lab concluded that SBI analysts had misstated or falsely reported blood evidence in about 200 criminal cases during a 16-year period ending in 2003. Some of the most egregious violations found were linked to Deaver.

Just watched it. All 10 episodes back to back. I thought Bobby and Scott did it together. Steven said when he came out the girl had gone and so had bobbys truck. They were each other's alibi. They killed her, put her in her car, too mer to the quarry and burned her in the drum, stashed the car and dumped the remains in the fire pit.

Started watching. Twisted and disturbing.

Reminds me of Fargo, except this is real.

Finally finished it. What was up with the investigator crying in the post trial hearing? The guy that forced Brendan to write and draw his confession

Its f**king obvious to anyone watching this is a stitch up. I've only watched as far as the first three episodes but FMD the police department are as guilty as sin.

Have to admit though, it was a dumbass idea for Steven Avery to stay in Manitowoc County after his release. Or if he was going to stay in the county, at least don't give the coppers reason to hate your ass and do something about it.... sueing them for 36million and making them look like fools after his release... that's just asking for trouble.

Yeah, if I spent 18 years in jail when I should have been out on the street, I would have just rolled over and copped it up the tailpipe when I got out too.

He had every right to sue them, they took all those years from his life and was very likely going to receive a huge payout as a result.
Where else would he have gone? His family lived on that property and he'd grown up there. I don't think he had many options when he'd just gotten out.
He also had an IQ of around 70 I believe.

yes I agree - he had every right to sue them.

But FMD, you're suing your local coppers in a small country town and making them look like fools in the process.... I don't think they're just going to sit back and take that lying down....... someone killed that girl, my guess is that its someone in the Avery family tied to the cops... wasn't his cousin married to a cop...

This is better than Fargo.

I thought Aragorn's message was pretty clear. If you're gonna sue the cops, move out of their jurisdiction.

Otherwise you get framed for murder.

There were only two good guys in all of this.. Stevens defence lawyers.

And two victims- Brendan Bassey and Teresa Halbach.

Personally believe Steven is innocent , but he's no saint. The fact his twin sons believe it wouldn't be entirely impossible for him to do it because of anger management issues ( understandable considering he was wrongfully locked away for 18 years!) says a lot. His ex-gf jodi? came out in a recent interview and called him pure evil?! Wtf???

It all lead me to think that he's done something sinister ie molestation. I think that was the confession Brendan was telling his mum in one of the episodes ie he wasn't confessing about Steven murdering Teresa but about Steven molesting him. I think it would also help explain why Brendan made up all that shit with the cops and played along with them - payback.. I also think Brendan's father in law Scott probably knew about it. In fact it could have been the families dirty little secret, so framing him and putting him back in jail may have been their only way to stop him. It would also explain why no one in his family (aside from parents) were openly unequivocally defending him throughout the entire series which I found strange......,,something sinister must have been happening in that Avery family and molestation is the only thing I can think of that fits the bill. So not just the cops, but his own family may have wanted him out of town.....how crazy dies that sound?

In terms of everyone else in the program, from the judge, to the prosecution, the cops, Stevens relatives, Teresa's bf, Teresa's brother - all villians.... it was borderline ridiculous the number villians on the show.

Small town America - scary stuff.

He did seem to have issues well before being put away.

I have doubts about Steven's innocence, but nowhere near beyond reasonable doubt, but also think that Brendan had nothing to do with it. Most compelling for me on Brendan was his desire to take a polygraph. Brendan is dumb and knows it, no way he thinks he can beat a poly.

Well where was he going to go?
Extremely low IQ and had no money when he'd just gotten out of jail.
He moved back to the only home and town he'd known.
Maybe if this TV show had aired he could have stayed at the Hilton in New York while he was suing them but he was a simple minded man and at the time what options did he have?
