Oh i guess irl must be at its pinnacle right now after all.

I guess that means you whinging poms can f**k off and stop bitching.

We have origin at its peak AND international footy. Happy days.

Except half of that is a lie. Even your own figures cant hide the fact nz drew bigger crowds in the 50s.

Irl is not the pinnacle of the sport even in the dreary north where more people care about their poxy little town's nonexistent hopes of winning a trophy than internationals, which goes to show the typical hypocrisy of the poms on here. What they need are a few more tests at leigh that arent even on tv. f**king amateurs.

Which part didn't you understand? Only one series since 1908 has had a bigger aggregate crowd for a 3-match series between England/GB and NZ than 2015? That includes the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s.

The 44k at the Olympic stadium for the second test is the biggest attendance of all time for an England/GB game v NZ in a series. This includes the 1950s and does not include the WC crowd of 67k in 2013.

So in the 50s they got more. 60 years ago. And youre sticking with this fact as some kind of proof of the intrrnational game being at its pinnacle. Even though this is completely contrary to the anti-australian whinge fest that somehow mal meninga is reaponsible for it NOT being the pinnacle he wants to return it to.

I dont answer on a subject to people with no credibility on that subject. Its little wonder people are deluded about the game when they know nothing about it.

You've got nothing.

You come into a discussion about the commission and RL in Australia from a position of presumability and scepticism. I and most others come from optimism.

You can attack my credibility all you like. I said all along that I don't have any inside knowledge of the tv rights negotiations. I just remained optimistic.

You'll see fro my posts since the deal with Fox was announced, I have been nothing but critical of the deal. Shows I'm not bias or have an agenda. You on the other hand have been the same miserable prick you always have been.

Yeah, let's not forget that England got those crowds this year after having to persuade the Kiwis to come over. Why? Because the Aussies refused to play any end of year tests against England and blocked a return of the Ashes series which was planned for 2015.

No you come from a position of complete ignorance. You called someone an idiot for not knowing the difference between the arlc and the NRL and then proved you have no f**king idea either. All you know is you spank your plank over everything they do and call it optimism. FMD.

No f**king shit. And the rfl just reluctantly played a test against France at Leigh and didnt get it televised and the nzrl sent a half strength team because players couldnt be f**ked. Which all points to the fact the international game is nowhere near the pinnacle of the sport but its not down to mal meninga. This shit started 20 years ago.

Can't believe no one has picked up on Meninga's comment that the Kiwis lost the England series due to tiredness.

Every prick in the NRL seems to think "burnout" is a big issue and international RL is the first thing to suffer.

Is there any data to support this?

Burn out is an issue, but it's not due to the number of games played by the players.

There is data there, I can't remember where, that shows the amount of games for the elite players hasn't changed very much in the last few years, but the amount of training and other off field commitments have risen. That's where the fatigue comes from. The clubs are to blame for this.

I don't buy it. Just sounds like players union nonsense. Completely condone measures to make players safe (e.g. concussion) and stand alone weekends for origin make sense, but moaning about fatigue and pulling out of international series because of that is ridiculous.

Having watched Kevin Sinfield play his 572th first team and representative game at the end of the season, one does have to question whether the NRL fatigue issue is one that should really impact the international game. I totally concede the NRL is played at a higher intensity, but would argue the lesser number of games and longer offseason makes up for it. I know players like Graham and Ellis have mentioned this in the media (that NRL players benefit a proper off season)

One of the first things David Collier talked about when he took over the RLIF earlier this year was making sure that player burnout isn't an issue in relation to the international game.

I already cannot wait for the 2016 ANZAC test.
NZ are ranked no.1 but coming off a series loss and Australia are staring at 4 losses on the trot against the Kiwis.

Meninga appointed Kangaroos coach

Thu 03 Dec, 2015, 10:00am
NRL Media

One of the most decorated players and coaches of his generation, Meninga officially begins his term with the Kangaroos today after a successful stint with the XXXX Queensland Maroons.

NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said Meninga would also be based in Sydney and would provide an ambassadorial role for the game, in addition to his coaching role.

"Mal's work with us starts today – so it is a very important day for the Kangaroos," Mr Greenberg said.

"Our aim is to win the Rugby League World Cup in 2017 and the job officially begins now."

Meninga said it was his personal ambition to become Kangaroos coach.

"For the players, it is the ultimate privilege to the wear the colours of your country, and it is something that they all aspire to," Meninga said.

"For me, it's always been something I've wanted to do. It is truly an honour to be in this position, as the new coach of the Kangaroos."

Mr Greenberg said Meninga would also work closely with the development of the Junior Kangaroos, Australian Schoolboys and Australian Jillaroos programs, as well as other national high-performance pathways.

"Mal's reputation as a player and as a coach, and also as a figure in our game, is second-to-none," Mr Greenberg said.

"This is an incredibly exciting appointment for the Kangaroos.

"We feel that Mal's appointment will ensure that playing for the Kangaroos is the pinnacle of a player's career, which is the way it should be.

"The progression of Mal from one of the most successful Queensland coaches ever to the Australian coaching position is an appropriate one for the game.

"Playing for the Kangaroos should be the greatest honour a player can have and Mal will no doubt bring that mentality to the squad."

Meninga's appointment follows the approval of a program designed to return the Kangaroos to the top of the International Rugby League ladder. The cornerstone of that policy is the appointment of a coach dedicated to the team.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to improve the Kangaroos program, developing emerging and high-performance players including the Junior Kangaroos and Australian Schoolboys along the way," Meninga said.

Australian captain Cameron Smith said he was excited to see Meninga appointed as Kangaroos coach.

"I couldn't think of a coach more suited to this role, given Mal’s achievements as a former Kangaroos captain and his understanding of what representing Australia means," Smith said.

"He has a proven record at representative level, as well as a tremendous ability to help his players perform at the highest level."

Both Mr Greenberg and Meninga also thanked the Queensland Rugby League for their support of the transition process.

"I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from the Queensland Rugby League – the players, the staff and the executive team," Meninga said.

"I'd also like to thank Denis Handlin and the team at Sony who have made sure this process has been as seamless as possible."

Excellent appointment.

For the past decade the position has been poorly served, good to see someone worthy finally in the role.

The Kangaroos need a mentor and Mal is perfect for that role he knows what rep coaching is all about. I'm happy about his inclusion as coach.
