I backed the Roosters to go good this year but I really think I forgot just how rubbish Maloney and Pearce are. They didn't create a thing all night.

Worst buy of the season and I'm starting to wonder how the Roosters will ever unleash Jennings and SBW with 2 halves who can't create at all.

Below par performance for Maloney, but that could be said of a lot of the Roosters. He has his ups and downs, but yeah, last night wasn't a particularly good night for him.

to be fair, Jake Friend was the real culprit on that try (and that's who i thought Aubusson was swearing at, actually). Not a lot Maloney could do one-on-one against someone twice his size scrambling across a meter out from the line after Burgess had just brushed Friend off like lint off a suit jacket..

But all in all, Maloney was poor. First game of the season, yes, but him and Pearce are way too similar to get much going, imo.

Verdict still out on Maloney for mine, I think he'd do well with a better #7 beside him.

Yep... we know about Maloney... but while Pearce got the tough genes from his old man, I am not sure he's any more creative than Wayne was... amazing that he's the Origin half IMO

From what I have seen in Superleague and the Broncos try, swaping James for Thomas might be a good step for the warriors.

Maloney is still a great hole runner, but as 5/8 he is supposed to be setting up players outside. He'd almost be a good centre...if he could tackle.
