Maloney

Maloney had a good game in a below average team performance. His defence was pretty darn good considering he had Ben Te'o hunting for him all game.

Sour grapes, I think. Try viewing it more objectively.

Also, a big LOL at expecting him to stop a monster prop from diving over from a meter out.

Aaaaaaaaand who expected him to stop burgess a metre out?

I believe you've wasted a big LOL on your reading ability

Maloney got a lot of hate for his missed tackles, but as mentioned he often got left as a sitting duck 1-1 and got owned when others around him (Johnson) weren't even around to attempt a tackle. This happened a lot in last years "golden run". Even if it was him versus JWH he'd have a go.

There is a count for missed tackles for screwing up an attempt, but not for missed tackles because of being MIA.

Halves defend on opposites sides of the field. He wouldn't have been near him.

Objectively, I don't recall him creating anything for his side over the course of the entire game

1 try
1 line break
1 linebreak assist

I'd say he went fairly well in a well beaten side.

The warriors could of used him yesterday when they were pounded by last years wooden spooners.

Like I said, sour grapes.

It's not sour grapes as I have been bagging Maloney since 2010. He tries hard but he can't play. A lot like Pearce really.

His 1 try was falling over the line unopposed due to a lucky deflection. I don't recall the assist but I'll take your word for it. He's usually good for a linebreak as he is more interested in running off other players than creating for them.

I missed the first two games. How did our halves pairing go against the lame duck Rooster halves?

IMO Johnson was the best half out there. All the rest seemed somewhat pedestrian.
Though I dont really think Johnson did all that much.

The Sydney media are saying he was 'brilliant' last weekend, and in pairing with Pearce. With attention like this he looks a shoe-in for Origin.

Sydney media is always biased towards their beloved Roosters. Did anyone here see the game and Maloney's efforts?

Yeah I saw it and he was very good. He was in almost everything. His best performance since the day we belted Brisbane in Brisbane in 2010.

I think a lot of the media attention is also caused by the NSW selectors being absoluely desperate to stick with Pearce at 7. No idea why, but they are. If you look at the Roosters play, Pearce does SFA. But if if they push Maloney for 6, then people may find Pearce at 7 more excusable, because they're (in theory) a settled combo. So I honesly think that pushing Maloney for Origin is actually about making up an excuse to stick with Pearce.

If NSW happens to win with Pearce and Maloney, it will certainly not be because of Pearce, but the selectors will say I told you so, it was worth persevering with him through all these years.

I watched Sterlo the other night and they put to get a highlight package of Maloney's 'sensational season so far'- it was basically that try in Round 1, where he had to catch the ball and fall over the line.

I also watched Sterlo, I thought Mathew Johns was spot on that Thomas Leuluai stifles our attack because he doesn't have the ball skills to be an effective NRL half. Johns said he'd be an outstanding hooker, which I also agree with.

So on what we've all seen...

Running game-Maloney wins easily
Passing game-Maloney wins easily
Kicking game-Maloney wins easily
Defence-Leuluai wins easily

I wonder what will happen when they get a few more troops on deck and are a bit more settled in the forwards, so can probably play around with things out the back a bit. To me Seijka is a raging hot favourite to take Leuluai's spot by the middle of the comp, and Tuimavave, while being a far worse defender, is certainly a far better ball runner and ball player. Maloney is easily the best 6 out of all them, and is seriously underrated by some here even though he was good for us for a long time, and IMO, Leuluai should go to the bench, and either Siejka or Tuimavave developed to give Johnson less attacking responsibilities. Seijka has an advantage to Tuimavave in that he's also a seriously good goal kicker.

Agree with all of that.
I have a problem with Carlos though. He is slow putting things together and predictable in the way he plays. I know he is young and can probably improve this but he won't get a chance alongside Johnson.
That pairing will be like a possum on a motorway.
Much better, in my opinion, would be Johnson outside Siejka, who is an organised half. The boot is a bonus.

Siejka is like 2 more dominant Vulcans games away from being damn near impossible to keep from a call up. Leuluai is absolute crap, even in his best half which was the last 40mins he played, he was still shite on attack. Siejka is the future of our halves, and Elliot better give him the call up soon.
