Do the people of these island countries share enough of an identity for this to work? How have their populations taken to the Super Rugby team trying this? I don't know and the people in the article saying it will are obviously pushing an agenda.

But in theory I love the idea.

Concept hasn't worked too well in super rugby. I prefer team in Christchurch.

In a future stage of expansion, there may well be a place for a team in the Pacific Islands - I imagine Fiji would logistically be the best choice, with maybe a game each year in Samoa/Tonga (trials?) given that Fiji has the biggest population base...

BUT right now? nope. Assuming Perth is in, it's mad to think that Auckland should play host to a 2nd NRL team when Christchurch or Wellington don't have one (let alone Adelaide, not forgetting the 1 million+ market there - in just one city). Directly splitting the existing Warriors fanbase is just the tip of the iceberg.

And don't get me started on the insanity of an Auckland based team playing in *how many* far-flung secondary markets?!?

in short: THIS IS NUTS.
