South Sydney Facing Juniors Exodus
Thu Oct 09, 6:27pm (NSW)
Written by: Mike Turner
Along with Matthew Brinckley and Luke Roberts who both seem to be heading to St George, young up-and-coming 19 year old prop Adam North has slipped through the grasps of the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Playing in the Under 19's competition for the South Eastern Seagulls, he has been spotted by scouts from the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

Due to lack of teams, the Souths Juniors had to combine with the Manly Juniors competition in what turned out to be a high quality and very competitive one at that. Unfortunately for Souths another possible superstar has under the radar and other NRL clubs seem to benefit from their mistakes.

North will be signing for a reported two years.

Hey Rastus, they're all nobodies according to you when they leave Souths but when you buy players like Byrne, Polgase, Marteene etc they suddenly become labelled as superstars!

You also pay big money for players past their use by date. Souths is the retirement village of the NRL. Players only go there to collect their last big pay cheque before they retire.

I hardly say Mcguiness and Walker are old players, both are only in there mid 20's

What are you on about  They played more games than Hill & Macdougall. They are also a few years younger than your guys! I think we got better value from Macguinness and Walker!

250k for Hill 31

200k+ for Macdougall 28.

BTW Macdougall was going to play for the knights on match payments until your mob waved the big retirement cheque in front of him!! ;-) ;-) ;-)

I think you must have your forums mixed up. Where have I, or any other Souths supporters, labelled Byrne, Polglase & Marteene as superstars ?. The Manly forum, on the other hand, greets EVERY signing as if it is Joey Johns :D . The kerfuffle created by the signing of C Hicks was amazing considering he is a nobody    .

To make a comparison, let's look at Marteene shall we? His signing has hardly rated a mention by Souths supporters (and certainly nothing compared to Hicks in the (official) Manly forum. Now lets look at their respective careers. Hicks has played first grade yes, but when the Panthers were VERY ordinary, since becoming successful he has not had a look in - no coincidence there :D . On the other hand, Marteene has played in an EXTREMELY successful Bulldogs premiership winning side and has since been kept out by El Masri & Utai - no shame there. On the above evidence, who is the better signing  .

The above statement is not meant to indicate that I rate Marteene highly as a signing, but I would certainly have him in front of Hicks.

In relation to McGuinness, what has he done to earn his $200k +  and Walker, he is going so well that you want to shaft him

It's your inference that because a few clubs were after Hall and Bryne that they must be great players, both are untried at the top level, and talking of nobodies Marteene, Pethybridge, Polglase haven't played much 1st grade at all in 2003

You know as well as I do that the Hicks signing was blown out of proportion by some posters on the Mightyeagles site, and as for Hicks no being able to crack a 1st grade spot I can use the same comparison, he's behind Rooney and Lewis, no shame in that. But according to Zorba Hicks also had a falling out with Lang, so he wasn't going to play 1st grade no matter how well he played.

Based on your evidence we won't know who the better signing is until they play some 1st grade games next year. It's ridiculous to suggest that just because Marteene played in a premiership winning side that he's a better signing than Hicks

The above statement is not meant to indicate that I rate Marteene highly as a signing, but I would certainly have him in front of Hicks.

Walker may or not be at Manly next year but he missed a fair few games and was still in the top 10 on the points scorers list. I don't agree with him being released(but that still isn't a forgone conclusion). I agree Mcguiness has been disappointing but he's the only highly paid played that hasn't performed.

Now if you want I can list a few of your ex-players that have been shafted(your words) Muir 300k and Richardson 200k+, money well spent!

Wait Wait Wait...Martenee played in a Premiership winning Bulldogs team? That would imply he is a very old man...a Typical Souths Signing...

Hicks & Marteene were both born in 1977. Hicks has 101 1st grade appearances with 36 tries and is also a very good goalkicker. Marteene has 70 1st grade appearances with 16 tries but is not a goalkicker.

I'd rather have Hicks than Marteene based of those stats! :D

When did Parramatta win their last 1st grade premiership?

Our last premiership was less than a decade ago(1996). Your team has choked and hasn't won a Premiership for nearly 2 decades! I suppose you're happy with your teams' record??

last team to go three in a row . club champions for the last eight years.

Ask anyone invovled in rugby league what their goal is, it's to win the 1st grade premiership.

So you've won the club champoinship 8 years in a row, wow! Now shouldn't you be asking the coach and management why Parramatta haven't won a premiership with all that backup? Smith took St george to a few GF's and they choked, he has sinced moved to Parramatta and turned them into a bunch of chokers!

In the last 20 years or so you've come up empty as far as 1st grade premierships go. In the 70's and 80's Manly were accused of trying to buy a premiership. How much money has your club thrown at players to "try and buy a premiership" and come up empty?

If your clubs' aim is to win the club championship well they must be over the moon! ;-) ;-) ;-)
