It's called cultural relevance! Thats the secret to genuine popularity. This is earnt and created over years of existence and significance within a community. It doesnt grow on trees. Mind you a very attractive code like rugby league can easily gain such relevance if it works proactively and respectfully.

So why does Origin have it and not the Kangaroos?

If it was something you could generate by throwing media hype and money at alone, the "battle of the bridge" Giants v Swans would be the highest rating show on Syd TV every year..

Kangaroos did have it. Poor competition and poor scheduling has negatively impacted on the Kangaroos relevance. Mind you the Kangaroos are still a very well admired and respected sporting team and this universal relevance can be easily gained back. This world cup is showing its attractiveness and relevance. Just look at the game on now? The public will come back. Its too good a code for that not to happen!

70k ..,not in Aust I imagine...During the golden years of the 80's Roos tours the Poms touring out here would struggle to get 30k

Australians have always been half arsed at supporting their national team. They could learn something from union and soccer fans in this regard.

Maybe when they get a regular contest people might show up to watch instead of on TV?

Although we see the effects of the status quo returning to the Wallabies who haven't won a series against the AB's in decades...no one can even be bothered watching those losers on TV

Some observations from my time in Canberra:

- Giant Poster in the middle of the city near the Canberra centre, advertising Canberra's games.
- Pubs that advertised 'all RLWC games live here'
- Stores + my hotel had miniature jerseys on the walls or dangling from the roof.

That was within an hour of being in Canberra and I wasn't out to look for advertising. I know not everyone would go into the city often but those Raiders fans who claimed they didn't know that games were on were either deliberately disinterested or were living under a rock.
