Maroons team for the successful 2021 Origin series

Capewell is getting unwarranted criticism because of how dominant Tom was last night but 90% of what Tom did had nothing to do with Capewell and majority of it was on the other side of the field where he was roaming. Yeah he got carved up for the first try but he got one back didn’t he? Not sure what bringing in another centre would do if the whole team can’t aim up.

Have a look at the opening set of the game, Tom touched the ball twice and rumbled straight through the QLD forwards, one carry where he bowled over Tino. If you want to try and stop or at very least limit him, that’s where I would start.

This series depends upon who plays 1 & 6 for the Maroons.
Ben Hunt, Corey Norman, Moses Mbye, Corey Allen. Not even one of these guys should play.

Perhaps Mbye will need to be considered as a centre, either to get Su'A a millions miles away from the team by moving Capewell into the forward rotation, or to replace Gagai if he's injured.

Green will need to have players training in the lead-up to next match. If they're not fit at the medical on Monday, then scratch them. Lead-up for Game 1 was a joke

He did cost them the first try with the cynical late tackle on Ado-Carr. Typical edge forward late hit on a kicker. Kicked off the massacre.

He's not a centre. He was a stop-gap who did extremely well last series, but he is clearly deficient in speed to be playing as an OB.

As you say, he's not the main problem with the team though. When they're missing their 3 main middles in Collins, Papali'i and losing Welch early, they were always going to struggle to control the ruck and line speed. NSW rolled through the middle with ease, and the backs took advantage

That wasn’t Capewell that was Kyle Feldt. He is deficient in speed but that wasn’t really much of an issue throughout the match besides the first try. Being a second rower gave him size and strength which is what helped him get through Tom for QLD’s one and only try.

100%, Turbo is the whole QLD teams problem, not just Capewell.

On a side note as a NSW supporter I’m glad they’re blaming him whilst Gagai on the otherwise was shiiiitting the bed against Latrell.

Everyone's going ape about Trbo, but he didn't really play as a conventional centre. He was everywhere and that was probably the license he got from Freddy. He played more like an old inside centre on a backline play, which today is basically the FB chiming in or an edge forward playing as a support runner.

Latrell though - He played in the modern centre position and absolutely killed it. Had fewer carries than Trbo but was was a handful on just about every single one.

Yep and he defended like a warrior.
I actually had him MOM as he was awesome on both sides of the ball.
Gagai and Holmes back on the wings or out of the team completely and Capewell back into the forwards. Brimson or Ponga at the back.
The centres is a huge concern and with no clear options, we have to take a punt on inexperience. Opacic and Copley? The cupboard is pretty bare.

AJ Brimson may not play on the weekend and Justin Holbrook is understandably not happy. He's questioned whether Brimson should of played at all. Brimson was kind of of wasted out there. He played 16 minutes as a back up hooker.

Kayln Ponga if healthy will probably come back at fullback. Holmes moved to the wing and Xavier Coates dropped. Holmes has been ordinary on the wing for the Cowboys this year though. But then again the whole team was travelling average during that period. He was ordinary but he couldn't get involved so they moved him to fullback.

Ponga needs to play a game before he gets selected for Game 2. Green can't afford to have players sitting out training sessions, particularly as the lead-up to Game 2 is shorter. Ponga only has 1 more chance vs Warriors.

Arrow
Brimson
Capewell
Chambers
Cherry-Evans
Copley
Fa'asuamaleaui
Fifita
Fotuaika
Gagai

Grant
Holmes
Hunt
Kaufusi
Munster
Papali'i
Ponga
Welch

There's the 18, do whatever with them you would like.

Ponga or Brimson at FB. Ponga plays, Brimson is 18.

Gagai will be more useful on the wing in yardage.

Copley and Chambers in the centres. I know it's bad, but who else? Perhaps Mbye?

Pack rotation will be bolstered by the in of Papali'i and Welch playing more than 10 mins. Capewell in that too.

Hunt and Grant to rotate acting half. Grant not up to 80 mins yet, and Hunt is a better option than Brimson for that role.

Jeez that depth is bad, even considering injuries & resting. What’s going on with the development systems in Queensland? Those numbers seem very low. New Zealand and some of the Pacific Islands would have more eligible players than that.
