230 odd metres, Willie Mason thoroughly deserved the Churchill Medal. It would have been an absolute travesty if anyone else got it - he was absolutely magnificent. I've been an ardent critic of this fellow, but by jingos, he's been tremendous the last half othe season and was just terrific again tonight.

Well played Willie.

It is a insult to the memory of Clive Churchill to award the medal to that idiot who should not even be playing rugby league let alone be in a grand final in a team that should also be gone!

What exactly did Mason do?

Draw obscene doodles on a tablecloth? No. Anyone that thinks those doodles are drawing has a very dirty mind if they can get genitals out of what he drew.

Take cocaine? No that was a media lie

Swear on TV? Yes he did. Big whoop. Lots of players have sworn on TV by accident. Including Langer.

Rape someone? No. Police found no evidence against the players and he wasn't even one of the ones implicated.

You don't happen to be related to Ray Hadley do you?

Actually, I heard Willie talk before the game about the rape saga, he was very forthright about how wrong rape is. He said it is worse than murder. I wouldn't think it'd be part of his ethical make up to even think of it.

The drugs were a media lie, he does swear occasionally, he did a runner from a cab, and he does have ADHD. But I feel he's improved his attitude enormously and deserves the accolades he's received accordingly. Hopefully we all get what we want, Willie moving into the next stratosphere of responsibility and being seen by the wider community as a good role model, not a media target.

I would rather be called an idiot than be known as a criminal, Believe what you want to believe but Mason is and was very guilty, it was no media hype! and he was not alone, amazing what dollars can buy!

You do know what you've just said does qualify as deformation, so yourself are guilty in the criminal sense?

Last year there was an absolute standout in Luke Priddis. This year there was nobody who really stood out.

Personally I would have given it to Sonny Bill Williams - he was always motoring forward and his defense was just bonecrushing.

However when it went to Mason I went, "Yeah, I can't really argue with that".

It could also have gone to Brent Sherwin, Andrew Ryan or Brad Fittler (who was the Roosters best).

I'm sure cases could be made for other players as well, but the award went to Willie and he is a deserved winner.

It's not like 2002 when Fittler was clearly the standout and somehow missed out to Fitzgibbon, or when Tallis won in '98 despite having a fairly quiet game.

Cheers.

Willie has paid for anything he`s been accused of and has become a much better person and footballer because of it.No one can deny that he was a deserved winner of the Churchill Medal tonight!

For it to be defamation it has to be not the truth, I have no worries there!

Stormbunny

Legally proven not to be. So you do have worries if you take this publically. I'd pull head from sphinxter and get some concept of reality into your life, then come and talk to us.

You are all so far up each other's you would not know the truth if it smacked you in the face, again I am fully aware of the facts/truth and have no worries about what I have said!

I am not here to win friends, but don't let the truth get in the way of a good story will you! Wake up, it happened and will continue to happen because the club is the most protected in the NRL!

Yep, it was thrown out as not having enough evidence to proceed, but you know the truth  Ray, Ray Hadley, is that you?

Just admit, Willie Mason played a terrific game and got the reward he deserved. Even one as ignorant as you could admit that. Maybe not?

I think stormbunny is a bitter Roosters supporter in disguise. Yes, Willie Mason is guilty. Of what, I hear you ask? Of dodging a $42.50 cab fare. That is ALL that has been proven legally against him. Any other allegations are LEGALLY false. Therefore claiming otherwise is defamation I'm afraid.

Willie Mason had a blockbusting game. Other standouts were O'Meley, Utai, Ryan, El Masri and Williams.

I thought it was a toss-up between Mason and Sherwin, both were outstanding. Mason was so damaging every time he took the ball up, he basically made the Roosters forwards look like pansies. they tried their best to stop him, i'm not habing a go at them, but there's just no substitute for size and speed (he is pretty fast for someone that big). sherwin's kicking game was probably the best i've seen it, and that's saying something. thanks to his pinpoint kicking, the Bulldogs were able to sustain territorial pressure on the Roosters set after set. it was him who ensured the work done by Mason, O'Meley etc. was taken advantage of.

i actually love Willie Mason as a bloke too. he's probably the only player left who says what he thinks, and isn't dictated by all those cliches which have become so damn boring. he wears his heart on his sleeve, he's ruled by his passion not reason, and that's refreshing to see. he's a relief from everyone else on TV, most of whom look like they're just reading something off a card rather than saying what they mean.
