Mason was the best forward on the field 21 hit ups 232 metres great game
The above /\ is all that needs to be said.
Mason came up huge on the games biggest stage and was a deserved Clive Churchill Medal winner as the games best player. Whenever Mason touched the ball, he was backing up the Roosters defence (the best in the NRL) and drawing 2-3 defenders at a time which caused the Roosters plenty of grief.
O'Meley was again busy, but he did not make as big an impact on the Roosters defence like Mason. A few times from memory I remember Mark getting negative gains or minimal meters which was a complete contract when looking at any of Mason's 21 hitups.
Sonny-Bill Williams made an impact, at one point Sterlo was heard to say something along the lines of "If the Bulldogs are going to hang on to this game, they need Sonny-Bill back out there"...gives us a fair idea of what he was doing when on the field. He hit hard, ask Chris Flannery, and showed again that the BIG game atmosphere has little effect on him. This guy could be as good as most say he will. A brilliant effort for a first Grand Final simply.
Congrats to Willie Mason, let's hope this is the year you look back on saying, "2004 I grew up and realised I could be one of the greats in this game after alot of off-fielf BS I brought on myself".
