Massive rumour

A massive rumour on the other forum which deserves it's own thread based on it's possible significance, the rumour is that Jim Doyle and associates are on the verge of buying the club from Eric Watson, below is the post, make of it what you will and debate away:

"Just to follow up on what I have recently posted, I just got another txt from one of them with apparently "real" story. According to him and what he's heard, NZ Warriors haven't been sold yet but is process of being sold to Jim Doyle (along with four or five of his Australian business associates), with proceedings to resign club over to them so far in advance they now think it's only a matter of weeks, maybe even days before they are finalize and an announcement is made, first to the members and then to the media. As this person has always been credible to me in past ( i.e he was adamant that KieranForan was coming here when it was only just a rumour that he might ) I am inclined to believed him unless somebody can prove me wrong. Like I said I don't know. I'm only repeating what three separate people have told me, all of them claiming they have heard this all from people with connections within New Zealand Rugby League. Like all rumours just take it for what it is. I'm only posting it on here in the hope that some of you who are on here, who are in touch with senior figures in rugby league community or maybe a senior figure themselves will be able to verify it for me, as a change of ownership at this club is probably only thing will keep me watching NZ Warriors next year. That's why I'm posting it, hoping that rumours turn out to be right this time because things need to change. The club can't keep going on like this. I know I can't ..."

Can any of these associates play prop and make tackles?

I would ask if they have footy smarts, but attempting to buy the Warriors answers that question.

Hope it's true. The sooner the club cuts it's ties with Watson the better.

Only reason to keep watching is if owners change???
Seriously?
Ownership change won't instantly change onfield performance. Owners don't select team on field.
Jim still appointed Kearney.
Maybe Cappy would be gone without Watson?

Interesting to see what happens though.

I'm with Reece on this one.....Rich is right as well. Watson doesn't seem to give a stuff. If ambition doesn't come from the top, then it can't possibly filter down.

Add to this Watson has appointed a board with no football experience, other than Doyle.
We need more football brains on the board.
This is a huge part of why we are in this position.

I can't forget Eric taking on the license and giving it life. I remember him flying in fans for the 2002 semi. My take on it though is that more and more he's become less involved. I wonder also whether investment in equipment etc has also been tight.

Jim Doyle is an astute businessman and I think genuinely invested in wanting to make this club professional. Perhaps if he can reshape the board and commit funds where required it may be a massive blessing.

If I had the coin though I'd hope I'd have more sense than to invest in this lemon. What a dysfunctional disgrace of a footy club.

As much as it's a tired excuse to blame the coach, the coach has been the actual problem every time.
Every one of them has failed to get our players in line, we are unskilled, unfit and unmotivated.

Who is responsible for appointing our coach, is it squarely on Doyle or a panel of heads?

Whoever they are, they missed the opportunity to bring back Cleary or get Toovey in here and instead picked up the biggest coaching spud in the game. That's where our issue is.

Think the 'business' was ok before Doyle?

Watson is one of many problems but not the key one IMO

And beginning to think football brains is an oxymoron

We haven't had a proven coach at NRL level in a while, so that would be the true test.
Toovey would of had a stroke or heart attack by now if he coached us. Not just in the players performance, but the refs calls we get would of sent him broke!
Cleary got shit here for being a coach to get us to the finals but not a Grand Final, then got us there when we didnt resign him.
Will be interesting to see if Des gets the boot.
I'd say Kearney KPI include making the top 8 in the end of year review.

Watson has done a lot for the club in terms of keeping it financially stable but at the end of the day he's a businessman trying to oversee the running of a sports team and his appointments have been pretty hit and miss in that regard. Doyle would be rather more hands on in that regard I think which would be a good thing.

Surely Iro's position will be untenable if he doesn't sign at least half a dozen players for next year, including a proven prop (pref two) and unearth a few promising youngsters.

Anyone know any potentials in local comps?

Was at some local footy today and overheard Frank Endacott having a conversation, saying that John Ackland had a terrific eye for talent, and that who they have doing it now has absolutely no idea
