Apparently AOB wanted Gamble to have another week in cup for match fitness so they’d probably move Crossland anyway.

Id imagine you'd make an application if you have enough time. At the end of the day the NRL wants the best teams on the park and they generally show more leniency for specialist positions in the spine. Similar to how Luai came in for origin despite not being in the original squad.

Can't think of any examples where it happened the morning of (someone wakes up sick?) But in the times it's happened in warm-ups it's generally the 19th man activated, mostly because noone else would be ready/at the ground.
