You don't need the best ever team when you've got the best ever coach.
They've had him for more than a decade - they had him plus Slater, Cronk and Smith... Did he suddenly get much better this year? Or has something else fundamentally changed?

I just don't agree with you that we shouldn't play our best team if they're fit to play. It's ok, we can disagree. We're big enough losers without needing to forfeit games.

Because in theory we should be able to lose by 10 or 20 instead of 50 or 60 if we play the best team we can, and it's important for us as far as the 8 goes - and our general mentality needs to be scrapping for every point and win that we can right now.

At least, that's the theory. We have too many passengers and pretenders in the team still.
Right, we shouldn't get destroyed like this with the line-up we have tonight but most long-suffering Knights fans knew it was coming once Pearce and D.Saf were out. That may be a pessimistic view but this side has done nothing to make me believe otherwise. Of tonight's side, around half of the players aren't good enough to compete with the best. The roster is indeed in worse shape than most realise.

I just think that it's worse for the players and the fans to get pumped by 60 when they look around and see Ponga, Klemmer, Frizell, Clifford, Brailey etc than it is without them. It seems like an odd, even negative ploy but given that Melbourne are that good and any side would get belted without 2 or 3 of their best players, I think you have to limit the damage to the confidence of the team and the fans.

Think you're potentially conflating posters. I was never arguing for that

Sorry, I just thought you were re-affirming Walk On Home Boy's take on resting players by citing the rule changes as a reason we were never going to stay in touch with them. That's how it came off in the flow of conversation. Apologies if not.

And a poor effort on Hughes from Barnett see's another easy try to Melbourne. Wow this is going to get so ugly.

Can someone explain to me how the rule changes gifted the Storm that one? Few minutes into the half and we're already half arsing it.

I don't really understand this line of thinking. If we're no chance of even beating the storm's second string side, why bother resting players?

To maybe help us get enough points to make the finals? Who cares if we make the finals if we're literally no chance to compete?

May as well just phone it in for the rest of the season, which is exactly the message the coach would be sending to the squad by resting blokes for the game this week... Sounds like something Brownie might do - remind me why half the squad quit on him again?
