The effort was there today for the full 80. Let ourselves down with some poor handling errors following tries killing our momentum. Add to this some poor kicking options we struggled to build any real field position.

In attack we didn't look like scoring most of the game.

But, the effort was there and if we can clean up our errors and develop a smarter kicking game we may yet get a win by the end of the season. Mullen needs to cease kicking the ball directly to the defenders. He did a bit better with this today but his attacking kicks hardly troubled the storm at all. 1st game back though.

Crowd was a bit over 10k. To be expected with our run of form, and playing an out of state team on a drizzly sort of day.

We needed to get more ball out to Ross's side. He should be playing centre, he is wasted on the wing with not enough room to move, he looks dangerous every time he gets the ball and can set up his winger. At the moment he is our best player.

If any you have the League Live app, it puts two players from the team in a poll with the two from the opposition for PotM. Our players were Mamo and Pat Matautia. And seven people voted for Pat. What the f**k.

I hope that effort brings back some of the faithful for the last run of home games...the atmosphere there today for 10000 was pretty good and if we could get double that there we could win those close games.

My run through;

  • I thought Korbin was good in his aggression today - he went out there looking to dominate the opposition in attack and defence...it was probably the best 'effort' I have seen from him in a long while
  • Barnett is really growing on me, week in and week out he is improving with every game - he has been a very astute buy
  • Mullen, for his first game back after an long stint on the sideline, showed he is a really important piece of the puzzle in making our side competitive - his touch was a bit off but run to the defence, his passing game and his defence are streets above anybody else we have on the roster at present
  • Elliott is not good enough for FG at the moment - I'd prefer to see more development put into Cory Dennis
  • Sione was awesome!
  • I think Ross should be in the Centres (closer to the ball) had another 100% go again out there today
  • We will miss Jezza next year
  • Mamo is a much better reader of play and anticipation at the back than Gaigai will ever have
  • The Rochow injury parade continues *sigh* - you know as soon as he gets picked up by somebody else though, his injury run will disappear and he will become sound as a church bell
  • Hodkinson is defensively solid but he is never going to be a world beater...I hope he and Mullen can stay sound for the rest of the year see what sort of combination/balance can be developed - I'm not expecting Cronk/Thurston but I'd like to see Brown get the next 6-7 games with a regular team on the paddock to see what sort of consistency he can achieve with this squad, based on the efforts of today
  • I hope Randall isn't too far off coming back - Adams isn't the answer
  • As much as there are complaints about our kicking game there were 4-5 repeat sets out there today...we haven't been getting one a game for most of the season

And can we ensure that Cameron Smith's hand bag (AKA Henry Perinara) doesn't get to do another Knights game this season.

Overall, really impressed with the 80 out there today. Brown's influence on the culture appears to be having an effect and I think we can see that there is a glimmer of light that this club is slowly but surely starting to build something solid for the future

Considering the showings of the past few weeks, I reckon there's a couple of wins to come before the end of the season, and I wouldn't put an upset away win out of the equation. The Roosters are only 3 points ahead still. Somehow, the unthinkable could happen and the Roosters could become the first team since 1990 to go from MP's to spooners in a season.

Injury update after Round 19

Newcastle Knights forward Robbie Rochow requires surgery to reattach his pectoral tendon following Sunday’s match against the Melbourne Storm.

Rochow saw a specialist in Sydney on Monday afternoon after scans revealed a tendon injury on Monday morning.

Rochow is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, which is expected to sideline him for four months.

In other injury news, Sione Mata’utia suffered a broken jaw in Sunday’s loss. The injury is expected to keep Mata'utia out for four weeks.

In good news, Dane Gagai is likely to return after missing Sunday’s match due to quad soreness, while Jarrod Mullen got through the game well after returning from a long-term hamstring injury.

Sione kept playing with a broken jaw, tough kid.

So Mamo and Daifiti suspended... Rochow out for the season with a pec injury plus Sione out for 4 weeks with a broken jaw...

So typical of the Knights that as soon as things start to come together we get struck down by bad luck :(

And yeah, I think I remember the Saifiti shoulder charge but I can't recall the Mamo or Sione incidents.. I think a rest will do Daniel good but the other two we need on the park. Mamo's could have been for the sliding with the knees on Harris' try but I'm not sure..

Looks like we'll be fairly depleted against the sharks which could be a tough day. We have a run home with 4 or 5 potentially winnable games. Hope we can get a few back and win at least 2 of those games?

I strongly agree with a lot mentioned above, however I can't agree with the Smith comment. He has dead set been a shell of his former self this year. If he could have his time again, he would probably have retired before the season started.

So are they saying the match review committee came up with these or was it Cam Smiths bum boy (Henry Perinara) because I don't recall any of them being put on report during the game?!

Might have to ask Doogs to stump up some 'manshake' money so Brownie can cut loose at the BS calls this club gets from the NRL :mad::mad:- upload_2016-7-18_18-21-51.png

...and I'm sorry but Dane Gagai's return doesn't brighten my day like the PR machine at the Knights think it should :(

EDIT - just had a look at the Mamo incident (it was the final try) where he collided with the player scoring the try....he catches him with his hip as he heading to try and prevent a try and some how that equates to a careless grade 2?! I mean seriously? what the hell is he supposed to do?!

This is the same mob that saw nothing wrong with Slater launching boots at the heads of players coming in to contest a bomb.

I know its a risk, but that is a BS call that should be contested.

For what it is, you would see a dozen or more of those in the open field during a game that don't even get a penalty, let alone attract 1-2 weeks suspension

I hear what you are saying and know he is not the player of his prime...but I think he is a genuine hard nut leader out on the field for this young brigade of forwards and it is that aspect that I think we'll miss - for mine when I watch them, whenever he is on the field our forwards seem more composed and in control of their game.

Perhaps, after the way Korbin stepped up on Sunday, he will be that leader for the future that we need out there

It just keeps getting worse

Sione kept playing with a broken jaw, tough kid.

Absolutely!...and he even went around the ground at the end of the match, where he was hobbling but didn't seem to be too discomforted by his jaw.

Also got to give props to Hodko...he looked like Frankenstein after the match but he also toughed it out as soon as he could get back out there.

Smith was one of our best yesterday. He's still definitely up to it, the guy is a tremendous defender and his carries are always strong. Absolutely love the bloke.

Yeah if we didn't have smith yesterday the storm would have laid on a heap of trys.

The amount of times I saw smith correctly read and shut down the storms little short ball trick plays was significant enough for me to take notice. The way he reads plays in defence you just can't replace.

Shame about Rochow, but we have played the last 3 years without him anyway.

Mamo should fight the charge and get off.

The one that really hurts us is sione. I could really see him striking a combo with Mullen down that right side. Oh well.

Just watching the game on the NRL subscription and I'll be stuffed if I can find any high shot from Sione in the 26th minute. No player stayed down or even flinched, no action from the ref, nothing. Do the NRL go through a match with a microscope looking for anything at all?

Saifiti better plead guilty. Not that it was much of a shoulder charge, he was standing still FFS. But the fairy league we watch these days will frown upon it. We get penalties for crowding these days, which used to be just the marker standing on the mark.

Mamo - Again, fairy league stuff. What is he supposed to do, stand back and guide him over the line. He was coming in to stop a try. He got close and started to bend at the knees I guess hoping to get himself under the ball. Exactly what he should be doing. No intention at all.
